Charles Henry Ballard
1882-1886
Charles Henry was born in Berkshire, the son of Charles and Emma Ballard (nee Head) who were married in 1880 (marriage registered in the June quarter, in Newbury)
Charles Henry died aged 4, on Wednesday 27th December 1886, from burns sustained after an accident, on Monday the 25th December 1886. He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 3rd January 1887
Charles Henry’s family:
His father Charles was baptised in 1853, in Chieveley, Berkshire, the son of Henry and Caroline Ballard (nee Pike/Pyke) who were married on the 15th January 1845 in Oare, Berkshire.
His mother Emma was baptised in 1863, in Leckhampstead, Berkshire, the daughter of Thomas and Amelia Head (nee Adams/Adnams) who were married in 1854, in Beedon, Berkshire.
The 1881 census records Charles (28), an Agricultural Labourer and Emma (21), a Charwoman, as paupers in the Newbury Workhouse.

The 1891 census records Charles (38), a Farm Labourer, living at 3, Clare Place, Newbury, with Emma (28) and their daughters, Florence (6), Ellen (5), (recorded as Helen) and Alice (1).
In 1901 Charles (47), a General Labourer, Emma (38) and their children, Alice (11), Emily (9), George (7), Matilda (5) and Albert (1), were living at 14 Goswell Row, Speenhamland, Berkshire.
The 1911 census records Charles (57), a General Labourer, Emma (48), their sons, Albert (11) and Percy (9) and their grandson, Alfred Ballard (18 months), living at 9 Bridge Cottages, Shaw Road, Newbury.
Emma died aged 48, in 1911 (death registered in the December quarter, in Newbury)
The 1921 census records Charles (68) as an inmate in the Newbury Workhouse. He was recorded as a Haulier’s Labourer, working for Mr. L. Brown, in Enborne, Berkshire.
Charles died aged 83 in 1937 (death registered in the March quarter, in Newbury)
