George Pike/Pyke
1915-1916
George Pyke was born on the 16th April 1915, in Newbury, Berkshire. He was baptised on the 5th May 1915, at St Mary, Speenhamland, Newbury, the son of John (a Labourer) and Rose Pike of 9 Bridge Cottages, Newbury.
George died in 1916. He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 17th March. (Age at death recorded as 10 months)
George’s family:
His father John was baptised on the 29th July 1866, in Tadley, Hampshire, the son of Noah and Susannah Pike.
George’s mother Rose was baptised on the 17th December 1876, in Andover, Hampshire, the daughter of Charles and Rhoda Stockwell.
According to the 1911 census John and Rose were married c1895. (No marriage record found around that time. Possible marriage 1916 in Fareham, Hampshire, John Pike & Rose Stockwell)
John and Rose also had the following children:

The 1901 census records John (34) as a Fish Hawker, living at 1, St Mary’s Court, Newbury, with Rose (28), Rose L. (5), (Louisa) John (4), Anne E. (2), (Hannah Edith) and a visitor, Ada Stockwell (17)
In 1911 John (39), a Licensed Fish, Fruit and Vegetable Hawker, Rose (34) and their children, Louisa (15), a General Domestic Servant, John (14) Assisting his father, Anna (12), Leonard (10), Lily (8), Samuel (6), an imbecile from birth, Rhoda (4) and Oliver (1), were recorded living at Hillmans Cottages, Stroud Green, Newbury.
The 1921 census records John (46), a General Labourer, Rose (45), some of their younger children, their married son John (24), his wife Gladys (20) as “These people travel the Country Hoeing and Picking, of No Fixed Abode, but home address recorded as 5 Marsh Street, Newbury.
Rose died aged 54, in 1931, in Newbury.
Possible death for John Pike, 1943, in Basingstoke, Hampshire aged 77.
