Winifred Beatrice hILL   1891 — 1930

Winifred Beatrice Smith was born on 10 June 1891 in Newbury, the daughter of George Henry and Susan, nee Sellar, Smith. She attended St Nicolas Church of England School in Newbury starting on 11 May 1896 when the family was living at 2 Kings Road. She left in June 1904 when she reached age 13. In the 1901 census Winifred was living with her parents George and Susan along with siblings Ellen aged 20, Edwin aged 18, Edith aged 15, Adelaide aged 13 and Joseph aged 12 at Malt Cottages in Kings Road in Newbury. George was recorded as a pensioned police officer, Ellen as a boot shop assistant, Edwin a grocer's assistant, Edith a tobacconist's assistant and Adelaide as a fruiter's assistant. 

Ten years later in the 1911 census Winifred was still living with her parents George and Susan along with brother Joseph Henry at 2 Malt Cottages in Kings Road in Newbury. George was recorded as a pensioned police officer, Joseph as a postman and Beatrice as a musical string maker. 
Winifred married Francis William Hill on 26 April 1916 at St Mary in Speenhamland. At the time of the marriage Francis was a private in the Army. Francis was born 6 May 1891 in Newbury the son of William and Annie Matilda Hill. In the 1911 census he had been a cycle mechanic. 
A son Francis Henry Hill was born 15 July 1918 in Newbury. 

Francis and Winifred were recorded in the electoral registers at 15 Berkeley Road in Newbury in 1922. However, from 1923 until 1930 they were recorded at 15 Jubilee Road. 
Winifred died November 1930 while living at 15 Jubilee Road in Newbury and she was buried at Newtown Road Cemetery on 15 November 1930. 

Francis remarried on 20 January 1932 at St Maryi nSpeenharnland to a widow Elsie May Pye. He was still living at 15 Jubilee Road in September 1939. He died 12 August 1965 in Newbury District Hospital and was buried 16 August 1965 at Shaw Cemetery. Winifred's parents were both buried at Newtown Road Cemetery, her mother Susan Smith on 15 July 1911 and her father George Henry Smith on 27 Au bus t 1918.
