Mary Jane Prince
c1833-1896
Mary Jane was born in Devizes, Wiltshire. She was baptised on the 3rd April 1833, in East Garston, Berkshire, the daughter of Charles and Hannah King (nee Woodley) who were married on the 8th August 1832, at St Mary the Virgin, Devizes, Wiltshire.
Mary Jane’s mother Hannah was baptised on the 12th January 1806, in East Garston, Berkshire, the daughter of James and Mary Woodley (nee Lewis) who were married on the 12th April 1801, in East Garston. Hannah died aged 28 in 1835, she was buried on the 12th November, at All Saints, East Garston, Berkshire
Her father Charles was born on the 10th June 1811, he was baptised on the 1st July in 1811, at St Mary the Virgin, Devizes, Wiltshire, the son of Thomas and Jane King (nee Harris) who were married on the 6th November 1809, at St Mary the Virgin, Devizes.
No record found for Mary Jane or her father Charles King in the 1841 or 1851 census
The 1861 census records Mary Jane (28) working as a Cook, at 6 Norland Place, Kensington, Middlesex, the home of Ellen (45) and her husband Robert Wells (47), a Silk Warehouseman.
In 1871 Mary (38) was living in East Garston with her widowed father Charles King (59), a Grocer.

Mary Jane married Charles Prince in 1877 (marriage registered in Faringdon)
(Charles Prince was born in Shillingford, Berkshire. He was baptised on the 28th August 1828, in Shillingford, the son of James (a Blacksmith) and Harriett Prince (nee Dix) who were married on the on the 24th April 1828, at St Faith, Shillingford).
In 1881 Charles (51) a Woodman and Mary (48), were living at the “New Inn” Curridge, Chieveley, Berkshire.
The 1891 census records Mary (58) and Charles (62), a Coal Merchant, living at 1 Montreal Place, Speenhamland, Newbury with Mary’s widowed father Charles King (79), who was living on his own means.
Mary Jane died aged 63, on the 12th January 1896, (cause of death: syncope) she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 15th January.
The 1901 census records Charles Prince (71) as a Wood, Coal and Timber Merchant, living alone at 1 Montreal Place, Newbury.
The 1911 census also records Charles Prince (82), a Wood and Coal Merchant, living alone at 1 Montreal Place, Speenhamland.
Charles died aged 85, on the 23rd February 1914, in North Fawley, near Wantage.
