Alfred William Phillips (1857 – 1858)
Henry Phillips was baptized on 23 March 1834 at St Nicolas in Newbury, the son of Charles, a tailor, and Maria. He married Jane Moss in 1854 in Newbury. Jane was baptized on 2 March 1834 at St Mary in Greenham, the daughter of Thomas, a boat builder, and Martha.
Henry and Jane had a son Henry Charles in 1854 and then three years later in 1857 another son Alfred William. Sadly, Alfred William died before his first birthday in November 1858 and he was buried on 19 November 1858 at Newtown Road Cemetery.
Henry and Jane moved away from Newbury soon after the death of Alfred and they were recorded in Westminster in the 1861 and 1871 censuses. Jane died in the 1870s and Henry remarried to Caroline. Henry and Caroline continued to live in London, they were in Bloomsbury in 1881 then St Marylebone in 1901 and 1911. Henry probably died in Kensington in 1920.
Henry’s parents were Charles Phillips and Maria Cannings who married on 31 May 1830 at St Nicolas in Newbury. They were both buried at Newtown Road Cemetery, Charles on 10 January 1887 and Maria on 6 October 1856.
