Hannah, her parents, siblings and early life:

Hannah and her sister Amy were baptised on the 24th May 1835, at St Mary, Hampstead Norreys, Berkshire, the daughters of Richard and Phoebe Wernham (nee Haines) who were married on the 15th October 1831 at St Mary, Hampstead Norryes (witnesses, Jeremiah Wernham and Eleanor Wernham).

Hannah’s father Richard was born on the 5th January 1809, he was baptised on the 22nd January 1809 in Hampstead Norris, Berkshire, the son of Richard and Sarah Whernam (nee Brooker) who were married in 1802, in Hampstead Norreys, Berkshire.

Her mother Phoebe Haines was born c1812.

Phoebe had a daughter, Ann Haines, baptised at St Mary, Hampstead Norreys, on the 9th January 1831, before she married Richard.

Richard and Phoebe also had the following children:

Rachel, baptised 24th September1837 (died aged 4 months, buried 27th December at St Mary Hampstead Norryes)

George, c1841

In 1841 Hannah (6) was recorded living in Wellhouse, Hampstead Norris, Berkshire, with her father Richard (30) a Lath Render, her mother Phoebe (25), her sisters, Ann (10), Amy (6) and her brother, Charles (2).

Hannah’s mother Phoebe died aged 34, in 1846. She was buried on the 11th February, at Holy Trinity, Hermitage, Berkshire.

In 1851 Hannah (15) was still living at home with her widowed father, Richard (42), a Lath Render and her brothers Charles (11) a Lath Render and George (9). Also recorded in the household was a lodger, Hannah Quelch (30) and her children, Caleb (5) (surname recorded as Wernham, born Quelch, in the December quarter 1846), Sarah (2) and Joshua (6 months).

Hannah Quelch also had a son, Obadiah, born in 1853.

Hannah’s father Richard married his lodger Hannah Quelch in 1854.

Richard and Hannah had the following children:

The 1861 census records Richard Whernam (51), a Lath Render, living in a Private House, in Hampstead Norris, with his wife Hannah (38), Hannah (21), a Dressmaker, George (19), Caleb (15), both Lath Renders, Joshua (10), Obidah (8), Edmund (5), Maria (4) and Rachel (1). Lodging next door was her future husband Henry Tucker (25), an Agricultural Labourer.

 

Hannah in later life:

Hannah married Henry Tucker in 1861 (marriage registered in Wantage)

Henry was baptised on the 22nd January 1837, at St Peter, Brimpton, Berkshire, the son of John and Charlotte Tucker (nee Bidmead) who were married in 1813, in Brimpton)

Henry and Hannah had the following children:

Amy Eliza, born 1862, in Hampstead Norris

Charlotte Annie, 1864, in Hampstead Norris

John Charles, 1866, in Hampstead Norris

Harriet Agnes, 1870, in Hampstead Norris

Rose Hannah, c1873, in Brimpton

In 1871 Henry (35), a Labourer, Hannah (35,) Amy (8), Charlotte (6), John (4) and Harriet (9 months), were recorded living at Birch Farm, Berkshire (situated in Frilsham, recorded as being in Bucklebury in this census)

The 1881 census records Henry (43), a Labourer, Hannah (45), Ann (17), a Servant (Charlotte Annie) Agnes (10) (Harriet Agnes) and Rose (8), living in Bartholomew Street, Newbury, Berkshire.

In 1891 Henry (mistakenly recorded aged 44), was working as a Corn Porter, he was living in St Mary’s Hill, Greenham, Newbury, with Hannah (mistakenly recorded aged 46).

Hannah was widowed in 1896. Henry died aged 59 on the 4th June. His funeral service was held at St John the Evangelist Newbury. Henry was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 8th June.

In 1901 Hannah (76), was living at 76 Cheap Street, Newbury, with three boarders. (Surname recorded as Jucker on ancestry)

Hannah died aged 71 on the 3rd April 1907, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 8th April, with her husband Henry.
