HAROLD MAYES WALKER
Harold was born in 1880 in Holbeach to Henry & Annie (Ref: 12639) Walker.
Q3 1880 Holbeach 7a 407. He was baptised on 21 April 1881 at All Saints, Emscote, Warks.
The family were living at 6, Broad Street, Warwick in 1881. Henry, 36, was an Insurance Agent & Annie was 33. Harold, 10 months, had 3 siblings: Walter, 7; John, 5 & Tom, 3 (Ref: 7360). His aunt, Sarah, was also living with them.
By 1891 the family had moved to 16, Craven Street, Newbury where Henry, 46, was still in Insurance & Annie was 43. Harold was 10 & his siblings were John, 15; Tom, 13 & Frank, 8.
On 14 April 1900, Harold attested into Princess Charlotte of Wales Royal Berkshire Regiment – the same as his brother, Tom – as Private 6909. They both fought in the Boer Wars with Tom dying of typhoid.
Harold married Mabel Meadows in Q4 1905 Holbeach 7a 885. She was his cousin & daughter of his Aunt Lucy (Ref: 961).
In 1911 they were living at 3, Falkland Terrace, Andover Road, Newbury. Harold, 30, was an Upholsterer & Mabel was 31. They had 2 daughters: Lucy, 4 & Mabel, 6 months. They were still there in 1921. Mabel’s mother came to live with them around 1930 & died in 1933.
Harold committed suicide on 12 September 1935 (Q3 1935 Newbury 2c 264).

Mabel survived him & died on 26 December 1958. (Q4 1958 Newbury 6a 70)
Military pension records show his service in the Boer War but also mention that he served with the RFC/RAF in WW1 but no further details.
