Maria Clements
c1795-1872
Maria was baptised on the 2nd August 1795, at St Mary the Virgin, Speen, Berkshire, the daughter of Thomas and Deborah Dobson (nee Mayres/Mayers/Maynes) who were married in October 1786, at St Mary, Bucklebury, Berkshire.
Maria’s father Thomas was born c1759. Thomas died aged 42 in 1801 and was buried on the 7th July, at St Mary the Virgin, Speen, Berkshire.
Maria’s mother Deborah was baptised on the 12th June 1768, in Bucklebury, the daughter of Isaac and Mary Mears. Deborah died aged 74 in 1840, (surname recorded as Dopson at time of death) she was buried in Stockcross, Berkshire.
Thomas and Deborah also had the following two daughters baptised at St Mary the Virgin, Speen:

Maria married widower, George Clements on the 18th June 1833, at St Nicolas, Newbury, Berkshire.
(George was baptised on the 18th July 1802, in Thatcham, Berkshire, the son of Thomas and Sarah Clements. He married Sarah Walker on married on the 6th August 1826, at St Nicolas, Newbury (both were single, witnesses, John Walker and Elizabeth Stillman). They had 3 children, George Walker Clements, 1826, Emma, 1828 and Frederick, 1831. Sarah died aged 31 in 1832, she was buried on the 21st May, at St Nicolas, Newbury)
Maria and George had a daughter, Ellen, baptised at St Nicolas, Newbury, on the 17th January 1836 (dad recorded as a Carrier)
In 1841 George (35), a Carrier, Mara (35), (Maria) Ellen (5) and Maria’s step-children George (15), Emma (12) and Frederick (10), were recorded living in Newbury, (Surname recorded as Clemons on ancestry)
The 1851 census records George (49), a Carrier, Meria (50), (Maria) Emma (21), a Dressmaker, Frederick (20), an Iron Founder and Ellen (15), living in Clements Yard, Bartholomew Street, Newbury.
In 1861 George (59), a Carman, Maria (62), Frederick (30), a Journeyman Iron Founder and Ellen (24) a Seamstress, were recorded living in Bartholomew Street, Newbury.
Maria was widowed in 1866, George (67) committed suicide ((by hanging) on the 29th January. He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 31st January.
In 1871 Maria (75), a Seamstress, was recorded living in Bartholomew Street, Newbury, with her married daughter Ellen New (34), her son-in-law, George New (31), a Baker and Mealman, her grandsons, William George New (7), Henry Clements New (1) and a domestic servant.
Maria died aged 76, on the 20th January 1872, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 25th January. (Age at death mistakenly recorded as 65 on the burial record)
