John was baptised on the 4th June 1797, in Wootton Bassett, Wiltshire, the son of John and Elizabeth Newth, (nee Jackson) who were married on the 10th January 1791, in Wootton Bassett.

John and Elizabeth also had the following children baptised in Wootton Bassett:

Sarah, 26th January 1794

Robert, 23rd February 1800

Jemima, 19th June 1803

Mark, 20th April 1806

William, 6th December 1807

George. 16th May 1813    (dad recorded as a Labourer)

John married Susannah Barrett on the 23rd October 1820, at St James with St Stephen, Trowbridge, Wiltshire.

(Susannah Barrat was baptised on the 8th August 1802, in Hilperton, near Trowbridge, Wiltshire, the daughter of James and Ann Barrett (nee Longstreet) who were married on the 24th December 1801, at St James, Trowbridge).

John and Susanna had the following three sons:

William, baptised 17th February 1822, in Hilperton (abode: Hilperton, father a bargeman) (died aged 9 years 10 months, buried 11th December 1831, in Hilperton).

Richard, baptised 14th August 1824, in Hilperton (abode: Staverton, Trowbridge, father a Bargeman)

John, baptised 25th December 1827, in Hilperton (abode: Staverton, father a Bargeman)

The 1841 census records Susannah (35) as a Weaver, living in Hilperton, with her sons, Richard (15), a Carpenter’s Apprentice and John (13). (No records found for John in the 1841 or 1851 census).

By 1858 John and Sarah were living in Newbury, Berkshire.

John died aged 61, in 1858, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 4th August.

Susannah after John’s death:

In 1861 Susannah (57) was recorded as a Nurse, living at 5, King John’s Almshouses, Newbury, Berkshire, with Mary Church (75) and Ann Church (82).

The 1871 census also records Susannah (66) as a Nurse. She was living at 8 Staple’s Yard, Newbury with two lodgers, George Fisher (26) and Edwin Trodd (20)

In 1881 Susanna (78), was living in Northbrook Place, Newbury. Also recorded in the household was a lodger, an Ann Brides (50), a Dressmaker. (Surname recorded as Nuth on ancestry)

Susannah Newth died aged 80, on the 24th September 1882, in the Newbury Workhouse, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 27th September.
