Ann Perris

Ann, her parents, siblings and early life:

Ann was born in East Woodhay, Hampshire. She was baptised as Mary Ann on the 10^th April 1842, in East Woodhay, the daughter of Robert and Mary Eady (nee Aubrey) who were married on the 2^nd June 1827, in East Woodhay, Hampshire

Her father Robert was born in East Woodhay, Hampshire (possible baptism, 18^th Oct. 1801, in East Woodhay, son of Thomas and Elinor Ady). Robert died aged 89, in the Kingsclere Workhouse, in 1886, he was buried on the 11^th June, in East Woodhay.

Her mother Mary was baptised in 1807, in Peasemore, Berkshire, the daughter of William and Lucy Aubrey (nee Green) who were married in 1794, in Peasemore. Mary died aged 70, in 1874, she was buried on the 10^th November, in East Woodhay.

Robert and Mary also had the following children baptised in East Woodhay:

The 1851 census records Robert Eady (51) an Agricultural Labourer, Mary (44), Hannah (19), Alexander (16), a Labourer, Edward (14), a Labourer, Anne (9), Louisa (6), William (2) and a visitor, Martha Joyce (28), living in Ball Hill, East Woodhay, Hampshire

The 1871 census records Ann Adey (29) as a Domestic Servant. She was living in East Woodhay, (near The Furze Bush), with her brother Alexander (37), a Woodman Labourer, her sister-in-law, Eliza (30) and her nephews Frederick (3) and Henry (3 months). (Living next door was her future husband Henry Soper, an Agricultural Labourer)

Henry and Ann had two sons baptised in East Woodhay. Richard, born 1874, baptised 3^rd Jan. 1875 and George born c1877, baptised 4^th February 1877.

Ann was widowed in 1877, Henry died aged 48, he was buried on the 1^st June, in East Woodhay.

Ann remarried in 1879. Her 2^nd husband was George Perris. (marriage registered in the September quarter, in Newbury).

(George was born c1835, in the Boxford/Stockcross area of Berkshire, the son of Thomas and Sarah Ann Perriss (nee Bayley/Bailey) who were married on the 12^th August 1822, in Hungerford. George married Ann Carter in 1859 (marriage registered in Newbury). The had the following children: Mary Ann 1860, George 1862, Clara 1864, Edwin, c1868, Albert c1870, Charlie 1872 and Alfred 1874. George was widowed in 1879)

George and Ann had a son Henry Thomas, born in Newbury, in 1880.

The 1881 census records George (48), a General Labourer, Ann (41), Edwin (13), a General Labourer, Albert (11), Charles (9), Richard (6), George (4) and Henry (9 months), living in Stockcross. (Richard and George’s surnames recorded as Perris)

In 1891 George (53) was working as a General Labourer, living in Pembroke Road, Newbury, with Ann (52), Albert (21), a Carter, Charles (19), a Groom, Richard (16), a Grocer’s Porter, George (14) and Henry (10).

Ann died aged 54, on the 20^th June 1894, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 25^th June.

In 1901 George (70) was again recorded living in Pembroke Road, Newbury. He was working as a Road Labourer. His son Henry (20), a Butcher’s Assistant and his stepson, Richard Soper (26), a Grocer’s Porter, were recorded living with him.

George died aged 75, on the 4^th December 1908, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 9^th December.
