Martha Rous

c1807-1883

Martha Sellwood was born in Burnham Buckinghamshire.

She married Samuel Rous on the 11^th May 1829, at All Saints, Wokingham, Berkshire.

(Samuel was a Brazier. He was born on the 8^th June1807, in London. He was baptised on the 25^th December 1817, at St Mary (The Minster) Reading, Berkshire, the son of Samuel (a Brazier) and Mary Rous (nee Wallis) of Brunsdons Bulidings, Reading, who were married on the 8^th September 1806, at St Leonard, Shoreditch)

Samuel and Martha had the following children:

William, baptised 6^th September 1829, at St Giles, Reading

Sarah, baptised 15^th May 1831at St Laurence, Reading (died aged 1, in 1832, in Reading)

Martha, baptised 6^th October 1833, at St Giles, Reading

Alfred, baptised 23^rd August 1835, at St Giles, Reading

Lucy, born 1839, in Windsor

Samuel, born 1843, in Windsor (died aged 3 in 1847, in Windsor)

Mary, born c1846, in Windsor

In 1841 Samuel (30), Martha (30) and their children, William (11), Martha (7), Alfred (5) and Lucy (1), were recorded living in Farm Yard, Datchet Lane, New Windsor, Berkshire.

The 1851 census records Samuel (43) living in Thames Side, Farm Yard, New Windsor with Dedworth, Berkshire, with Martha (44), Wiliam (20), a Labourer and Lucy (11)

Samuel died aged 47, in 1854, in Windsor.

The 1861 census records Martha (55) as a Laundress, living in Rounds Court, New Windsor, with her daughter Mary (15), a Pupil Teacher and a lodger.

In 1871 Martha Rouse (65) was recorded as a Ladies Nurse, she was living at 4 St Ellens Place, Oxford Road, New Windsor, with her married daughter Mary Pearce (35), a Laundress, and her son-in-law, Henry Pearce (39) a Gardener.

The 1881 census records Martha (75) as a Laundress, she was still living at 4 St Ellens Place (now recorded as St Hellens Place) with Mary Pearce (35) Henry Pearce (39).

Martha died aged 76 on the 4^th February 1883, she was buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 7^th February.
