James was baptised on the 29th September 1833, at St Andrew, Boxford Berkshire, the son of William and Hannah Seymour (nee Ballard) who were married on the 28th December 1821, in Hampstead Norreys/Chieveley, Berkshire.

James’s father William was baptised in 1802, in Boxford, Berkshire, the son of Philip and Sarah Seymour. (nee Hibbett) who were married in 1797, in Boxford.

His mother Hannah was baptised on the 20th September 1801, in Leckhampstead/Chieveley, Berkshire, the daughter of William and Charlotte Ballard (nee Brooker) who were married in 1782, in Chieveley.

William and Hannah also had the following children all baptised at St Andrew Boxford, except Charles, who was baptised in Hampstead Norreys:

George, 7th March 1824

Thomas, 12th November 1826

Charlotte, 1st February 1829

William, 28th August 1831

Harriett, 25th June 1837

Hannah was widowed in 1838, William died aged 36, he was buried on the 23rd February, at St Andrew, Boxford.

Hannah remarried in 1846, at St Andrew, Boxford, Berkshire. Her 2nd husband was widower, George Herbert. She died aged 75 in 1877 and was buried on the 1st June, at St Mary, Great Shefford, Berkshire.

The 1841 census records James (7), living at Ivyfield Farm, Boxford, with his widowed mother Hannah (35) and his siblings, Charlotte (12), William (9) and Harriett (3).

In 1851 James (17) was working as a Plough Boy, at Hook End Farm, Basildon, Berkshire, for Farmer, Thomas Painton (29).

James served in the Army (7th Foot Reg).  U K Military Deserters 1812-1927 records record him aged 35, deserting on the 31st March 1871.

The 1891 census records James (60), a General Labourer, as an inmate in the Newbury Workhouse.

James died aged 71, on the 5th March 1905, in the Newbury Workhouse. He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 9th March.
