William was an Agricultural Labourer. He was baptised on the 5th January 1798, at St Mary, Kintbury, Berkshire, the son of Thomas and Hannah Coxhead (nee Cox) who were married on the 8th June 1780, at St Mary, Kintbury.

Thomas and Hannah also had the following children baptised in Kintbury:

Hannah, 1795

James, 1801

William married Hannah Bailey on the 15th May, 1828, at St Mary, Kintbury, Berkshire. Witnesses, Lucy Bailey and Charles Watts.

(Hannah was born on the 29th April 1803, in Newbury Berkshire. She was baptised on the 3rd August 1803, at St Nicolas Church, Newbury, the daughter of James and Sarah Bailey (nee Showell) who were married on the 5th December 1787, at St Nicolas Church Newbury).

William and Hannah had the following children:

Thomas, baptised in 1829 in Kintbury

Edwin, baptised 1st January 1832 in East Woodhay

Louisa Ann, baptised 18th May 1834 in East Woodhay

Anne Maria, baptised 8th May 1836, in East Woodhay,

William, born 1838 in Kintbury

James, baptised in 1840 in Kintbury

The 1841 census records William (40), living at Holt Farm, Kintbury, Berkshire, with Hannah (35) and their children, Thomas (11), Edwin (9), Louisa (7), Maria (5), William (3) and James (0).

William was widowed in 1844, Hannah died aged 40 (death registered in the December quarter, in Newbury)

The 1851, 1861 and 1871 census records record William living in Hampstead Marshall, Berkshire, as follows:

1851: William (53) and his children, Ann (16), (Anna Maria) Wiliam (12) and James (10).

1861: William (62), his children, Edwin (29), Hannah M. (25) (Anna Maria) a Housekeeper and his granddaughter Eliza (3) Anna Maria’s illegitimate daughter)

1871: William (75) was now living alone, working as a Labourer.

William died aged 84, in the Newbury Workhouse, on the 10th December 1880. He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 13th December.
