Lucy Barling Coxhead

Lucy was born in either Brockenhurst or Lymington, Hampshire, the daughter of John and Mary Perry (nee Barling) who were married on the 16th December 1784, in Brockenhurst. (John was from Romsey)

Lucy married Benjamin Coxhead on the 13th November 1824, at St Peter and St Paul, Fareham, Hampshire. (Benjamin was a widower. He was born c1773, in Bermondsey, Surrey)

In 1841 Benjamin (65) was recorded as Independent, living in Northbrook Street, Newbury with Lucy (50) and a servant, Mary Hawkins (25)

The 1851 census records Lucy (61), living off Winchcombe Place, Newbury, with Benjamin (78), a retired Baptist Minister and a servant, Hannah Holly (25).

Benjamin died aged 79, on the 12th November 1851 at home in Newbury. He was formerly pastor at Little Wild Street, London and later in both Truro and Winchester

The 1861 census records Lucy (71) as a Fundholder, living in West Street, Newbury, with a servant, Elizabeth Batter/Batten (18).

Lucy died aged 79, on the 23rd January 1865, in Newbury. She was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 27th January.

 

Probate: COXHEAD Lucy Barling    Effects under £1000      7th February 1865    The Will with Codicil of Lucy Barling Coxhead late of Newbury in the County of Berks Widow deceased 23rd January 1865 at Newbury aforesaid was proved at Oxford by oaths of Alfred Barling of the Town of Southampton Gentleman and James Corbould of Speenhamland in the County of Berks Gentleman the Executors
