Jane Adams

Jane, her parents, half siblings and siblings:
Jane’s mother Sarah Chapman was born c1768 (probably in Horningsham, Wiltshire). She married William Ayers on the 5th February 1792, in Horningsham. They had the follow two daughters baptised in Horningsham (Jane’s half-sisters):
Elizabeth Ayers, born 22nd December 1792, baptised 10th March 1793
Sarah Ayers, born, 26th November 1797, baptised 7th January 1798****
Sarah was widowed in 1798. William Ayres died aged 31. He was buried on the 4th July, in Horningsham.
Sarah Ayres (nee Chapman) remarried on the 10th May 1802, in Horningsham. Her 2nd husband was Henry Chapman (both were widowed).
Henry and Sarah had the following children (Jane and her full siblings) baptised at the Horningsham Independent, Wiltshire. (Surname recorded as Chipman on all the baptism records and Henry recorded as Henery):
Lucy, born 18th February, baptised 8th April 1803
Melley, (possibly Molly/Molley) born 18th April, baptised 26th May 1805
George, born 19th March, baptised 1st May 1808
Jane, born 17th October 1810, baptised 11th November 1810
Possible death for Jane’s mother, Sarah Chapman, (formerly Ayres/Ayers, nee Chapman) aged 48, buried 21st May,1816, at Horningsham Independent
No other records found for Jane’s father, Henery Chipman/Henry Chapman.
Jane in later life:
Jane married John Adams on the 14th May 1826, at St Denys with St Lawrence, Warminster, Wiltshire.
(John was a Gamekeeper. He was baptised on the 12th May 1799, in Horningsham, Wiltshire, the son of William and Jane Adams (nee Wiltshire) who were married on the 26th December 1791, in Horningsham (William was from the parish of Rodden and Jane was from the parish of Rode). John married Sarah Ayers on the 3rd April 1820, in Horningsham. He was widowed in 1825. Sarah died aged 27, she was buried on the 20th July in Horningsham. No children found for this couple.)

William John, baptised 9th March 1845, in Monkton Farleigh
Elizabeth Barbara/Borrough baptised 12th September 1847 in Monkton Farleigh

The 1841 census records John (40), Jane (38), Mary (12), Alfred (9), Noah (5), Elizabeth (2) and Dinah (2), living in Martinsell Hill, Pewsey, Wiltshire.
In 1851 John (49), Jane (40), Alfred (19), a Wheelwright, Noah (15), a Gardener, Sarah Jane (9), William John (5), Elizabeth (3) and Emily (2), were living in the hamlet of Rowe, Hemington, Wiltshire
The 1861 census records John (58), Jane (50), William (17), a Gamekeeper, Elizabeth (14), Emily (12) and John (7), living in Marchamley, Shropshire.
The 1871 census records John (60) and Jane (60), living at the “Wellington Arms”, Wash Road, Newbury, Berkshire. John was recorded as the Innkeeper.
Jane died aged 62, on the 1st November 1872. She was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 6th November.
John left the “Wellington Arms” in approximately May 1873.
By 1881 John (82), now retired, was recorded living with his widowed daughter-in-law, (the widow of his son Alfred) Amelia Addams (47), Licensed Victualler, at the “Waterloo Inn” Southgate Street, Southampton.
He died aged 87 in 1888, in Southampton.
