Richard, his parents, siblings and early life:

Richard was baptised on the 16th April 1833 in Enborne, Berkshire, the son of Henry and Mary Allen (nee Hamblin) who were married in 1828, in Hampstead Marshall, Berkshire.

His father Henry was baptised in 1806, in Enborne, the son of Mary Allen. Henry died aged 86 in 1891, he was buried on the 1st June, at St Michael and All Angels, Enborne.

His mother Mary was born c1804, in Greenham, Berkshire. Mary died aged 48 in 1851, she was buried on the 18th April, at St Michael and All Angels, Enborne.

Henry and Mary also had the following children baptised in Enborne:

Thomas 1842

The 1841 census records Henry (30), a Labourer, Mary (30), Emily (10), Richard (8) and Elizabeth (5), living in the City, Newbury, Berkshire.

In 1851 Richard (18) was working as an Agricultural Labourer, in the Tything of Sandleford, Berkshire, for Farmer Richard Deacon (66).

(Sarah was born c1842 in Highclere Hampshire, the daughter of Charles and Mary Clark (nee Ward), who were married on the 15th November 1841, in Kingsclere, Hampshire)

Sarah had an illegitimate daughter, Ellen Clark, baptised in 1865, in Enborne, Berkshire.

The 1871, 1881, 1891 and 1901 census records record Richard and Sarah living in Enborne Row, Enborne, Berkshire

In 1871 Richard (38), was working as a Farm Servant, living with Sarah (29) and Ellen (5).

1881 Richard (48), was working as a General Labourer, living with Sarah (39) Ellen (15) and a lodger, Sarah North (83), who was widowed on the day of the census.

In 1891 Richard (58), was working as a General Labourer, living with Sarah (49), their daughter Ellen (25), their grandson John R. Allen (2) and his father Henry (86).

In 1901 Richard (68), was working as a Labourer, living with Sarah (59) and their grandson Thomas R. (12).

Richard was widowed in 1905. Sarah died aged 63. She was buried on the 24th May, at St Michael and All Angels, Enborne.

In 1911 Richard (78), was recorded as, formerly an Army Pensioner, he was an inmate in the Newbury Workhouse.

Richard died aged 83 in 1916, in the Newbury Infirmary. He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 25th May.
