Ada Ellen Collins was born on 7 March 1890 in Greenham, the daughter of Charles and Ann, nee Quelch, Collins. In the 1891 census she was living with her parents and siblings at St Mary’s Hill in Greenham. Ten years later in the 1901 census she was recorded with her parents, sisters Emma and Alice and others at 8 Adey’s Buildings in Stroud Green. Her father Charles was a garden labourer.

 

Ada gave birth to a son Francis Albert on 15 December 1908 at 8 Adey’s Buildings. She was recorded as a domestic servant.

 

Sadly, Francis died aged only 22 days and he was buried at Newtown Road Cemetery on 11 January 1909.

 

In the 1911 census Ada was recorded living in High Street, Lambourn and working as a domestic servant. She married Frederick Bennett in Newbury in 1912. Ada and Frederick then moved away from Newbury, in 1921 they were living near Lower Heyford in Oxfordshire and in 1939 in Bampton, also in Oxfordshire

 

Ada died in 1978 in Wantage district.
