Sarah Jane Haine
1843-1922
Sarah Jane Parfitt was born on the 12th April 1843, Hampshire. She was baptised on the 10th May 1843, in Avington, the daughter of Edmund and Maria Parfitt (nee Mitchell) who were married on the 11th June 1840, in Mere, Wiltshire.
Edmund and Maria also had the following three children baptised in Avington: (dad recorded as a Farmer on all baptism records)
Mary Maria, born 5th April, baptised 16th August 1841
Edmund Mitchell, baptised 25th January 1845 (died aged 1 in 1846)
Emily Helena, born 12th October, baptised (as Emma Eleanor) 10th November 1846
and
Eliza Richards, born 2nd November 1849, baptised 19th January 1853 at Longbridge Deverill, Wiltshire.

The 1851 census records Edmund (36), a Farmer of 920 acres, employing 36 Labourers, Maria (36) their children, Sarah Jane (7), Emily Helena (4), Eliza Richards (1), a nephew, Paul Mitchell (6) and two House Servants, living in Longbridge Deverill, Warminster, Wiltshire.
The 1861 census records Sarah Jane (17) as a Pupil, at Taplow House, Ladies Boarding School, Taplow, Derbyshire.
In 1871 Sarah Jane (27) was working as a Schoolmistress at the Abbey Ladies School, Frome Road, Beckington, Somerset. The head of the household was her sister Mary (29), a School Mistress. Also recorded in the household was her father Edmund (56), a Brewer and Spirit Merchant, her mother Maria (56), her sister Emily (26), fourteen female scholars, a Governess and two Domestic Servants.
The 1881 census records Edmund (67), a Wine and Spirit Merchant and Maria (67), living at the Abbey School with their daughters, Mary (49), Principal of the School, Sarah (46), also Principal of the School, Emily (44), a Professor of Music, Eliza (42), Instructress of School Youths, plus a Cook, a Kitchen Maid, a House Maid, 2 Governesses and 34 pupils.
Sarah Jane’s father Edmund died aged 70 on the 31st January 1884 at the Abbey School.
In 1891 Sarah Jane was again recorded as a Principal of the Abbey School.
Her mother Maria died aged 82 in 1895.
In 1901 Sarah (54) and her sister Mary (56) were again recorded as Principals of the Abbey School. Also recorded at the school were 62 Pupils, 11 Governesses, a Matron, 3 Ladies Helps, 2 Housemaids and a Kitchen Maid.
Sarah Jane married in 1903.

(Harry was born in 1858 in Lullington, Somerset, he was baptised on the 20th February 1859 in Lullington, the son of Joseph (a Farmer) and Harriet Haine (nee Bond) who were married on the 18th December 1838, in Wheathill Somerset).
In 1911 Sarah (67) and Harry (54), an Electrical Engineer, were living 45 Lemington Road Villa, Westbourne Park, Paddington, London
The 1921 census records Sarah Jane aged 78 years 4 months, living in Nether Cerne, Dorchester, with her husband Harry aged 62 years 9 months, an Electrician
Sarah Jane died aged 79, on the 18th October 1922, in Nether Cerne, Somerset. Her body was brought to Newbury and she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 21st October with her sister Mary Maria Parfitt (buried 11th October 1916)
Harry died aged 70 on the 9th November 1928 at Lullington Dollis, Hills-lane, Neasden, Middlesex.
