Mary Elizabeth Anderson

1850-1886

Mary Elizabeth was born in Chaddleworth, Berkshire, the daughter of William Mason and Isabella Anderson (nee Charleton) who were married on the 19^th April 1849, in Heddon on the Wall, Northumberland.

Her father William Mason Anderson was born c1821 in Stanfordham, Northumberland, the son of William and Isabella Anderson (nee Mason) who were married on the 12^th February 1820 in Heddon on the Wall, Northumberland.

Her mother Isabella was born c1828, she was baptised on the 19^th October 1828 in Heddon on the Wall, Northumberland the daughter of Thomas and Margaret Charlton.

Mary’s siblings were:

Thomas, born c1851 (died aged 37 on the 13^th May 1889, buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 16^th May)

Isabella, born 1856

Florence born c1859 (died aged 1 in 1860, buried on the 28^th January, at St Andrew, Chaddleworth)

Margaret Florence born 1864

The 1851 census records William (29), a Land Steward, Isabella (21), Mary (1) and 4 servants were recorded living at Woolley Park Farm, Chaddleworth, Berkshire.

In 1861 William (39), a Head Steward, Isabella (31), Mary Elizabeth (11), Thomas (9), Margaret (7) and Isabella (4), were living at Woolley Home Farm, Chaddleworth.

Mary’s father William died 44, on the 7^th June 1865. He was buried on the 13^th June, at St Andrew, Chaddleworth.

In 1871 Isabella (42) was recorded as an Annuitant, living in Woodspeen, Berkshire, with Mary (21) a Governess, Isabella (14), Florence (6) and a servant.

The 1881 census records Mary (31) as a School Governess living at 1 Compton Villa, Speenhamland, Berkshire, with her mother Isabella (52) a School Teacher, her sister Isabella (24), a School Governess, 2 female school boarders and 2 female servants.

Mary’s mother Isabella died aged 45, on the 6^th April 1885. She was buried on the 10^th April, at St Andrew, Chaddleworth.

Mary died aged 36 on the 5^th December 1886. She was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 6^th December.

The Will of Mary Elizabeth Anderson late of Newbury in the County of Berks spinster who died 5^th December 1886 at Newbury was proved at Oxford by Thomas Anderson of Abingdon in the said County Mercantile Clerk the Brother and William James Wood of Brightwaltham in the said County Surgeon the Executors
