Harriet, her parents, siblings and early life:

Harriet was baptised on the 20th April 1834 in Burghclere, Hampshire, the daughter of William (a Labourer) and Mary Belcher (nee Brackston) who were married on the 18th October 1833 in Burghclere.

Her father William was born in Burghclere, Hampshire. He was baptised on the 29th November 1812, in Newtown, Hampshire, the son of Benjamin and Hannah Belcher (nee Andrews) who were married on the 10th February 1811, in Thatcham, Berkshire.

According to census records her mother Mary was born c1812 in Kintbury, Berkshire.

William and Mary also had the following children baptised in Burghcclere:

Martha, 5th July 1835 (dad a Shoemaker)

Amos, 16th April 1837 (dad a Shoemaker)

Ann, 27th January 1839 (dad a Labourer)

Mary, 26th September 1841 (dad a Labourer)

William, 12th November 1843 (dad a Labourer)

Albert, 20th April 1845 (dad a Labourer)

John, 23rd May 1847 (dad a Labourer)

Eliza, 24th June 1849 (dad a Labourer)

Theresa, 3rd August 1851 (dad a Labourer)

Thomas, 21st September 1856 (dad a Labourer)

The 1841 census records William (25) as a Shoemaker, living in Burghclere, with Mary (25) and their children, Harriet (7), Martha (6), Amos (4) and Ann (2).

Harriet in later life:

In 1851 Harriet (17) was working as a House Servant for widower, William Pascoe (73), an Annuitant, in Whitway, Kingsclere, Hampshire.

Harriet married John Moth in 1854 (marriage registered in Newbury)

(John was born in Hoe Benham, Berkshire. He was baptised on the 3rd February 1828, at St Mary the Virgin, Speen, Berkshire, the son of Edward and Elizabeth Moth (nee Clark) who were married on the 4th April 1825, at St Andrew Boxford Berkshire).

John and Harriet had the following children baptised in Burghclere:

Edward William, born 1855, baptised 28th December 1862

Charles John, born 1856, baptised 28th December 1862

Frederick George, born c1859, baptised 27th February 1859

Sarah Ann, born 1861, baptised 24th February 1861

Caleb Henry, born c1863, baptised 28th April 1863

Arthur, born c1865, baptised 26th March 1865

Alice Mary, born 1867, baptised 26th May 1867

Florence, born 29th July 1871, baptised 27th August 1871

Frank, born 1876, baptised 7th April 1876

The 1861 census records Harriet (27) living in Sheep Wash, Burghclere, Hampshire with her children, Edward (5), Charles (4), Frederick (2) and Sarah Ann (2 months).

In 1871 John (43) was working as an Agricultural Labourer. He was living in Burghclere, Hampshire, with Harriet (37), Sarah Ann (10), Caleb (8), Arthur (6) and Alice Mary (3).

The 1881 census records John (53) as a Maltster and Publican, living in Harts Lane, Burghclere, Hampshire, with Harriet (47), Arthur (16), a Groom, Alice (13), Florence (9) and Frank (5).

In 1891 John (63), was recorded as a Maltster, living at 1, Holly Bank Terrace, Kings Road, Newbury, with Harriet (57), Sarah (30), a Cook, Arthur (26), a Brewer’s Labourer and Florence (19).

Harriet died aged 59 on the 5th July 1893 (cause of death, cancer). She was laid to rest in a private grave the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 8th July.

John died aged 81 in 1908, at 1 Holly Bank Terrace, Kings Road Newbury, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 1st August.
