Charles Haynes/Haines
1855-1882
Charles, his parents, siblings and early life:
Charles was born on the 22nd January 1855, in Donnington Berkshire, the son of Joseph and Mary Haines (nee Holder) who were married on the 3rd March 1837, in Winterbourne, Berkshire.
His father Joseph was baptised in 1815, in Shaw cum Donnington, Berkshire, the son of William and Jane Haynes (nee Newman) who were married in 1798, in Shaw cum Donnington. Joseph was recorded as an Agricultural Labourer in 1851, a Gardener in 1861, 1871 and 1881 and a Jobbing Gardener in 1891. Joseph died aged 92 on the 22nd August 1906, in the Newbury Workhouse. He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 25th August.
His mother Mary was baptised in 1814 in Winterbourne, Berkshire, the daughter of James and Charlotte Holder (nee Barrett) who were married in 1810, in Chieveley, Berkshire. Mary was recorded as a Laundress in the 1861 census. Mary died aged 79 on the 12th May 1893 in Donnington. She was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 15th May.
Joseph and Mary also had the following children:

Elizabeth, 1840 (no baptism found, possibly baptised as Maria as no birth found for a Maria)
Maria, c1840, baptised in Winterbourne
William, 1844 born in Shaw
Isaac, 1847 born in Donnington
Henry, 1849 born in Donnington
Jane, 1851 born in Donnington (died aged 17 in 1868, buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 16th June)
Alfred, 1857 born in Donnington
A female, 1860 (died without being named soon after birth)
The 1861 census records Charles (6) living in Donnington, Berkshire, with his parents Joseph (44), Mary (45) and his siblings, Maria (21), Henry (11), Jane (9) and Alfred (3)
His parents continued to live in Donnington until they died.
Charles in later life:
By 1871 Charles (17) was working as a Page, for the vicar of Speen, Reginald C. Edwards (38), living in Speen Backway, Speen, Berkshire.
Charles served in the Navy from the 1st January 1873 until the 13th August 1874.
He married Elizabeth Jane Tyrrell in 1877, in London.
(Elizabeth was baptised on the 5th December 1852, in Effingham, Surrey, the daughter of Robert and Harriet Tyrell (nee Davis) who were married in 1851 in Effingham).
Charles and Jane had the following children:
Charles Alfred, born 1878 in Wandsworth
Harriet, born 1880 in Wheatenhurst, Gloucestershire
Mary, born 1881 in Wheatenhurst, Gloucestershire.
The 1881 census records Charles (26) as a Gardener (Domestic Servant), living in Wheatenhust, Gloucestershire with Elizabeth (25), Charles (2) and Harriet (10 months).
Charles Haines died aged 27 in 1882, in Donnington, Berkshire. He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery, as Charles Haynes, on the 22nd August.
Elizabeth after Charles death:
Elizabeth Jane remarried in 1886. (marriage registered in Newbury) Her 2nd husband was Harry Brinsden.
(Harry (Henry) was baptised on the 21st December 1863 in Tilshead, Wiltshire, the son of Wiliam and Evis Brinsden (Avis Amelia, nee Monday) who were married on the 18th August 1849, in Tilshead, Wiltshire.)
They had the following children: William, born 1886, Bertie, born 1887, Martha, born 1890, Elizabeth Jane, born 1894 and Ellen Caroline Polly, born c1899.
Henry was a Shepherd. The 1891 and 1901 census records record the family were living in Skinner’s Green, Enborne, Newbury. In 1911 they were recorded living in Cope Hall Lane, Enborne, Newbury
Elizabeth died aged 87 in 1943 and Henry died aged 84 in 1948 (both deaths registered in Newbury)
