Elizabeth Richards
c1850-1926
Elizabeth was baptised on the 27th October 1850, at St Nicolas Church, Newbury, Berkshire, the daughter of Charles and Jane Richards (nee Lawrence) who were married on the 12th September 1846, at St Nicolas, Newbury.
Her father Charles was baptised on the 26th November 1820, in Melksham, Wiltshire, the son of John (a Labourer) and Sarah Richards (nee Redman) who were married on the 13th June 1819, in Melksham. Charles died aged 36 on the 5th February 1857, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 10th February.
Her mother Jane was baptised on the 21st May 1822, at St James Leckhampstead, Berkshire, the daughter of John and Mary Lawrence (nee Chamberlain) who were married on the 13th December 1813 in Leckhampstead. Jane died aged 73 on the 18th June 1892, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 24th June.

In 1851 Charles (30) a Corn Porter, Jane (28), Mary (3), Charlotte (2) and Elizabeth (7 months) were living in Newbury, Berkshire.
Elizabeth’s sister Mary Jane died aged 7, on the 2nd February 1855, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 6th February.
The 1861 census records Jane (39), a Corn Factor, living in Corn Wharf, Newbury, with her children Charlotte (12), John (9) and Elizabeth (10).
The 1871 census records Jane (50), a Corn Porter, Charlotte (21) a Pupil Teacher, Elizabeth (20) living in Corn Wharf, Newbury.
The 1881 census records Elizabeth (27) a Teacher/Governess (Private), visiting her married sister Charlotte Carter and her family, in Newtown, Berkshire.
In 1891 Elizabeth (40), a Nursery Governess was recorded living at 6 Kimber’s Almshouses, Market Place, Newbury with her mother Jane (71) and her nephew Frank Carter (5).
The 1901 census records Elizabeth (45) as a Domestic Housekeeper, working for an Urban Rose (28), a Grocer and Draper, in Tadley, Hampshire.
In 1911 Elizabeth (59) was again recorded as a Housekeeper, she was working for a widower, Robert Bell (85), a Retired Draper, at 5 Craven Road, Newbury, Berkshire.
The 1921 census records Elizabeth (70) living alone at 1 Raymonds’ Almshouses, Newbury.
Elizabeth died aged 75, on the 28th September 1926. She was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery with her sister Mary Jane (buried 1855) and her parents Charles (buried 1857) and Jane (buried 1892) on the 1st October.
