George Batson
1856-1864
George was born on the 8th July 1856 in London. He was baptised on the 27th July 1856, at St Paul, Bermondsey, the son of David (a Porter) and Mary Ann Batson (nee Allen) of 36 Nelson Square.
George’s father David was born on the 26th February 1826, in Pockthorpe, Norwich, Norfolk. He was baptised on the 5th March 1856 at St James with Pockthorpe, Norwich, the son of David (a Weaver) and Mary Batson (nee Gibson).
George’s mother Mary Ann was born on the 21st December 1829. She was baptised on the 17th January 1830, at St Nicolas Church, Newbury Berkshire, the daughter of George and Melicent Allen (nee Purdue) who were married on the 5th July 1829, at St Nicolas, Newbury.
George’s parents, David Baston and Mary Ann Allen were married on the 21st August 1853, at St James, Shoreditch, Middlesex.
They also had the following children:

Mary Ann, born 1859, in St Luke, Middlesex. (died aged 17 months, in 1861, buried 13th Feb. 1861 in City of London, Tower Hamlets, Cemetery)
William, born 1861, in St Luke, Middlesex. (died soon after birth in 1861)
Thomas, born 1865, in St Luke, Middlesex

The 1861 census records George (5) living at 46 Banner Street, St Luke’s, Middlesex, with his father David (34) a Porter, his mother Mary Ann (32) and his brother Frederick (7)
George died aged 7 in 1864. He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 20th February.
In 1871 David (43) a Packer, Mary Ann (41), Frederick David (16), Thomas (6) and George (1), were living 15 Ellesmere Road, Bethnal Green, London.
Mary Ann died aged 43 on the 17th April 1873, in London. Her body was brought to Newbury and she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 21st April 1873. (She shares as grave with her younger sister, Hannah Allen (1835-1915))
George’s father David remarried on the 30th August 1874, at St Stephen’s, Bow, Middlesex. His 2nd wife was Susan Kirtland.
The 1881 and 1891 census records record David and Susan living in Ellesmere Road, Bethnal Green. In 1881 Thomas (16) and George (12) were recorded still living at home, by 1891 David and Susan were living alone.
David died aged 74 in 1901. (Death registered in the March quarter in Bethnal Green)
