Mary Ann, her parents, siblings and early life:

Mary Ann was born 26th June 1810, in Hammersmith Middlesex, she was baptised on the 5th August 1810, at St Paul, Hammersmith and Fulham, Middlesex, the daughter of James and Sarah Starbuck (nee Holloway) who were married on the 24th August 1809 in St Marylebone, Westminster.

Mary Ann’s father James was a Publican. He died aged 64 in 1840 (death registered in the March quarter, in Kensington)

Her mother Sarah was born c1784 in Newbury, Berkshire. Sarah was recorded in the 1851 census as a Licensed Victualler at the Cannon Inn, Queen Street, Hammersmith. She was again recorded living at the Cannon Inn in the 1861 census. Sarah died aged 77, in 1861 (death registered in the December quarter, in Kensington)

James and Sarah also had the following children baptised in Hammersmith:

Eliza, born 11th December 1811, baptised 29th January 1812

Charles, born 19th July 1813, baptised 24th October 1813

William, born 27th August 1815, baptised 10th December 1815
James Frederick, born 6th September 1817, baptised 7th December 1817

Abner Richard, baptised 27th June 1819

Sarah Jane, born 21st September 1821, baptised 28th October 1821

Mary Ann in later life:

Mary Ann married William Boyer on the 31st May 1834 at the Chapel of St Paul, Hammersmith and Fulham, Middlesex. (Witnesses, Elizabeth Boyer, J. S. Starbuck and Eliza Starbuck)

(William was born on the 30th December 1808 in Newbury, Berkshire. He was baptised on the 24th February 1809 at St Nicolas Church, Newbury, the son of William and Martha Boyer (nee Ruddle) who were married on the 14th February 1808 in Kingsclere, Hampshire (William was from Newbury, witnesses, Ann Ruddle, G. Boyer and Elizabeth Hobbs)

William and Mary Ann had the following children baptised at St Nicolas, Newbury:

William, 19th July 1835

Ellen, 8th May 1836

George, 19th January 1838

Martha, 3rd May 1839

Clara, 26th October 1842

Mary Ann, 16th August 1844

Frederick, 5th November 1847

Alfred, 9th November 1849

Eliza, 31st August 1851 (died aged 5 months on the 1st January 1852)

Charles, 30th January 1853 (died aged 4 yrs 8 months on the 31st August 1857)

(The 1835 and 1836 baptism records record William as a Publican (possibly the Black Boys Inn). The 1838-1853 baptism records record him as a Painter and Glazier, apart from Eliza’s baptism in 1851 which records him as a Painter and Plumber).

The 1841 census records William (31) as a Plumber, living in Bartholomew Street, Newbury, with Mary Ann (30) and their children, William (6) Ellen (5), George (3) and Martha (2).

The 1851 census records William (42) as a Plumber and Glazier, employing 8 men and 2 apprentices, living in Bartholomew Street, Newbury, with Mary Ann (40), William (15), a Painter’s Apprentice, Ellen (14), George (13), Martha (11), Clara (8), Mary Ann (6), Frederick (3) and Alfed (1).

William died aged 45 on the 15th July 1854, he was laid to rest in a family vault in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 21st July.

The 1861 census records Mary Ann (50), Ellen (25), Martha (22), Mary Ann (16), Frederick (13) and Alfred (11), living at 72 Bartholomew Street, Newbury.

Mary Ann (60) and her daughter Ellen (34) were again recorded living in Bartholomew Street, Newbury in 1871 (surname recorded as Beyer on ancestry)

Mary Ann died aged 68 on the 9th May 1879, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 16th May

Probate: BOYER Mary Ann    Effects: under £200        31st May 1879   Administration of the Personal Estate of Mary Ann Boyer late of Newbury Berks Widow who died 9th May 1879 at Newbury was granted at Oxford to Martha Boyer of Newbury Spinster the daughter and one of the Next of Kin.
