Ellen Boyer

c1836-1872

Ellen was baptised on the 8^th May 1836, at St Nicolas Church, Newbury, Berkshire, the daughter of William and Mary Ann Boyer (nee Starbuck) who were married on the 31^st May 1834 at the Chapel of St Paul, Hammersmith and Fulham, Middlesex. (Witnesses, Elizabeth Boyer, J. S. Starbuck and Eliza Starbuck)

Her father William was born on the 30^th December 1808 in Newbury, Berkshire. He was baptised on the 24^th February 1809 at St Nicolas Church, Newbury, the son of William and Martha Boyer (nee Ruddle) who were married on the 14^th February 1808 in Kingsclere, Hampshire (William was from Newbury, witnesses, Ann Ruddle, G. Boyer and Elizabeth Hobbs)

Her mother Mary Ann was born 26^th June 1810, in Hammersmith Middlesex, she was baptised on the 5^th August 1810, at St Paul, Hammersmith and Fulham, Middlesex, the daughter of James and Sarah Starbuck (nee Holloway) who were married on the 24^th August 1809 in St Marylebone, Westminster.

Her father William was recorded as a Publican (possibly the Black Boys, Inn, Bartholomew Street Newbury) in 1835 and 1836. By 1838 he was working as a Painter & Glazier, then later as a Plumber and Glazier, employing eight men and two apprentices.

Ellen was recorded living with her parents and siblings in Bartholomew Street, Newbury in both the 1841 and 1851 census records.

Her father William died aged 45 on the 15^th July 1854, he was laid to rest in a family vault in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 21^st July.

The 1861 census records Mary Ann (50), Ellen (25), Martha (22), Mary Ann (16), Frederick (13) and Alfred (11), living at 72 Bartholomew Street, Newbury.

The 1871 census again records Ellen (34) and her mother Mary Ann (60) living in Bartholomew Street.

Ellen died aged 36, on the 21^st June 1872, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 26^th June.

Her mother Mary Ann died aged 68 on the 9^th May 1879, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 16^th May
