Arch Stephen was baptised on the 25th December 1835, at St Mary the Virgin, Marlborough, Wiltshire, the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Boyce (nee Hickman) who were married on the 24th December 1821, at St Mary the Virgin, Devizes, Wiltshire. (both were single, surname recorded as Boyes)

Arch’s father Thomas was a Cabinet Maker. He was born c1795 in Marlborough, Wiltshire. Thomas died aged 64 in 1858, he was buried on the 28th October, at St Mary the Virgin, Marlborough.

His mother Elizabeth was born on the 10th February1798, in Devizes, Wiltshire, she was baptised on the 2nd May 1798, at St Mary the Virgin, Devizes, the daughter of John and Elizabeth Hickman. Elizabeth died aged 60 in 1858, she was buried on the 21st March, at St Mary the Virgin, Marlborough.

Sarah Boyes, baptised 19th January 1829, at St Mary the Virgin, Devizes

George Boyes, baptised 14th July 1833, at St Mary the Virgin, Marlborough

Elizabeth Boyce, baptised 3rd June 1838, at St Mary the Virgin, Marlborough

The 1841 census records Arch (5) living in Fore Marsh, Marlborough, with his father Thomas (43), his mother (42), his brothers, Charles (18), Thomas (15), George (8) and his sisters Sarah (12), Ellen (10) and Elizabeth (3). (Surname recoded as Bayse on ancestry)

In 1851 Arch Boyes (15) was recorded as an Errand Boy, living in Figgins Lane (off the High Street) in the parish of St Peter’s Marlborough, with his father Thomas (56), his mother Elizabeth (52), his brother George (17), a Labourer, his brother-in-law, Henry May (20) a Cordwainer, his married sister Ellen May (19), a Dressmaker and his nephew, Stephen May (6 months)

The 1861 census records Arch as Stephen Boyce (24), an Ostler, lodging in a Street (possibly Winton Street), off Barlow’s Lane, Andover.

Arch Stephen Boyce died aged 29 in 1865. He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 28th March

Sarah Jane gave birth to a daughter, Sarah Boyce, born on the 9th April 1865, baptised (as Sarah Boyes) on the 24th April 1865 in Andover. Sarah died soon after she was born.

Sarah Jane remarried on the 31st May 1868, in Hampshire. Her 2nd husband was Charles Anthony Weston. They had at least six children. She was widowed in 1901 and died aged 81 in 1922, in Andover.
