George Bye
c1827-1894
George was baptised in 1827 in Brimpton, Berkshire, the son of Joseph and Emma/Am(e)y Bye (nee Marshall) who were married in 1808, in Brimpton.
His father Joseph was born c1786 (possibly baptised in Aldermaston, Berkshire the son of Thomas and Mary Bye).
His mother Amy was born c1788. She died aged 55 in 1842 and was buried on the 8th November at St peter, Brimpton.

The 1851 census records George (21) as an Agricultural Labourer, living in Brimpton Common, Berkshire, with his married sister Ann Lewis (26), his brother-in-law Isaac Lewis (28) an Agricultural Labourer, his nephew William Lewis (3), his niece Ellen Lewis (2) and his father Joseph Bye (65), an Agricultural Labourer.
George married Martha Downing (nee Titchener) in 1856 (marriage registered in Newbury)
(Martha Titchener was baptised in 1824 in Bishopstone (near Little Hinton) Wiltshire, the daughter of William and Susanna Titchener (nee Keen) who were married in 1815 in Bishopstone (North.) Martha gave birth to a daughter Martha Jane Downing, (birth registered in the December quarter 1848) in St James, Westminster. Martha Jane was baptised on the 3rd December 1848 in Bishopstone Wiltshire, the daughter of Irwin and Martha Downing).
George and Martha had the following children:
Amey, born in 1859, baptised as Emma on the 31st July 1859 at St Nicolas Church Newbury.

The 1861 census records George (36) as a General Labourer, living in Wash Common, Berkshire with Martha (37), Martha Jane (12) and Amey (1) (recorded as Ann)
George was widowed in 1868, Martha died aged 44, she was buried on the 23rd May, at St Mary, Greenham.
In 1871 George (43), a Labourer, was again recorded living in Wash Common, with his daughter Emma (11) and William (9).
The 1881 census records George (59) and his son William (19), living at The Wash, Newbury, both were working as Agricultural Labourers.
The 1891 census record George (61) as an Agricultural Labourer, he was again recorded living in Wash Common. His married daughter Emma Wyatt (31), son-in-law James Wyatt (33) and their children, Ernest (10), Charles (7) and David (6) were also living with him. (Surname recorded as Wyeth on ancestry)
George died aged 67 on the 11th August 1894. He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 14th August.
