Arthur Seward 1879-1938 Arthur was born in Brimpton. His father Samuel became a baker and confectioner with a shop on Cheap Street, next door to the Catherine Wheel pub, now the entrance to the Kennet Centre. Arthur married Annie Woodward in 1902, they had a son and a daughter. Arthur and his brother Frederick worked for his father but by 1921 Arthur had his own baker & confectionery shop on The Broadway, just along from the Monument Inn. In his younger years he was in the Berkshire Yeomanry and remained a Special Constable all his life. He, like his father, was very active in the Methodist Church on Bartholomew Street, being treasurer for many years. Probate was £8,654 19s 2d.
