Sarah, her parents, siblings and early life:

Sarah Head was baptised on the 4th June 1826, in East Ilsley, Berkshire, the daughter of Joseph and Sarah Head (nee Whaite) who were married in 1808 in Beedon, Berkshire.

Sarah’s father Joseph was baptised in 1784 in East Ilsley, Berkshire, the son of Henry and Ann Head (nee Purton) wo were married in 1782 in Chieveley/Leckhampstead, Berkshire

Her mother Sarah was baptised on the 19th June 1785 in Mildenhall, Wiltshire, the daughter of James and Elizabeth Wait (nee Haines) who were married in 1780, in Mildenhall, Wiltshire.

Joseph and Sarah also had the following children baptised in East Ilsley, Berkshire:

In 1841 Sarah (13) was living near the pond in East Ilsley, Berkshire with her father Joseph (55), a Butcher, her mother Sarah (55) and her brothers James (20), George (11) and William (7).

In 1851 her father Joseph (68) a Pauper/Butcher and her mother Sarah (68) were recorded living in the High Street, East Ilsley. Sarah (21) was working as a Servant in Moulsford, Berkshire, for a Farmer, Mr.  John Rowles and his wife Maria. Also working for them was a William Buckle (22) an Agricultural Labourer.

Sarah’s father Joseph died aged 67 in 1851 (death registered in the June quarter, in Wantage)

Sarah’s mother Sarah remarried on the 21st October 1851, her 2nd husband was Thomas Goff, a widower. They were married at St Mary, East Ilsley, Thomas was from West Ilsley. Fathers, Thomas Goff and James Waite.

Sarah married William Buckell/Buckle in 1852 (the William Buckle recorded in the 1851 census above)

Groom: William Buckle, full age, bachelor, occupation, Labourer, abode, Hampstead Norris

Bride: Sarah Head, full age, spinster, abode, East Ilsley

Fathers: Joseph Head, a Butcher and George Buckle, a Labourer.

Witnesses: George Emanes and Hannah Smith

(William Buckle was and Agricultural Labourer. He was baptised on the 23rd August 1829, at St Leonard, Wallingford, Berkshire, the son of George and Jane Buckle (nee Hewett) who were married on the 29th September 1821, at St Leonard, Wallingford).

William and Sarah had the following children baptised in East Ilsley:

The 1861 census records William Buckell (31), Sarah (33) and their children, Elizabeth (9), James (5), Caleb (3) and Joshua (1) were living in Hampstead Norris, Berkshire.

In 1871 William Buckle (42), Sarah (42), Joshua, (11), Jethro (9), Joseph (7) and George (5) were living in Woodrows, Compton, Berkshire.

The 1881 census records William Buckell (52), Sarah (53), Joshua (21), Joseph (17) and George (16), living in a Cottage in Parsonage Green, Aldworth, Berkshire.

In 1891 William Buckell (62), Sarah (63) and their son Joshua (30) were still living in a cottage in Aldworth, Berkshire

William Buckle died aged 65 in 1895 (death registered in the June quarter, in Wantage)

Sarah Buckell died aged 76 on the 7th October 1908, in the Newbury Workhouse. She was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 10th October. (Burial register records surname as Buckle)
