Martha Day Watson nee Sheerman (1849-1922)

Martha was born in Whitway, Burghclere and baptised in Burghclere on 18th. February, 1849. Her father was Robert Sheerman, one of generations of Blacksmiths in the area and her mother, Mary nee Ashley, from Wilton, Wiltshire. Robert and Mary had married in Burghclere on 2nd December, 1840.

In 1871, she was visiting her aunt and uncle’s family in Bremhill, Wiltshire. The Vine family were Farmers there. (Her aunt, Anne, was her father’s sister).

Martha married Malcolm Watson in St John’s Church, Newbury on 22nd February, 1876.

They had two sons –

Ernest Malcolm Watson (1877-1928)

Archibald Sheerman Watson (1880-1912)

   

The family lived in the Carnarvon Terrace, St Mary’s Hill and Queen’s Road parts of Newbury, being at 2 Winchcombe Terrace, King’s Road in 1918.
