Henrietta, her parents, siblings and early life:

Henrietta was born on the 18th October 1873 in Brixham, Devon, she was baptised on the 1st February 1874 at St Mary, Brixham, the daughter of George Broderick and Jane Nisbett (nee Jacobs) who were married in 1868 (marriage registered September quarter, at St George Hanover Square)

Her father George was born in Ireland, the son of Robert Nisbett.

Her mother Jane was born in 1846, in East Woodhay, Hampshire, the daughter of James and Sarah Jacobs (nee Knapp) who were married on the 20th November 1826 in East Woodhay.

The 1871 census records George as a Mercantile Clerk, living in Sussex Street, Westminster, with Jane and his son Meade G. L. Nisbett, aged 5, who was born in Russia. (probably a son from a previous marriage)

Jane gave birth to a daughter, Eliza Langford Sarah, born 17th May 1871, she was baptised 28th July 1871, at St Gabriel, Warwick Square, Pimlico. At the time of Eliza’s baptism, the family were living at 48 Sussex Street. George was recorded as a Gentleman on the baptism record.

George died aged 60 on the 6th November 1874 in London.  

By 1881 Jane had moved to Newbury. The census for this year records her as a Dressmaker, aged 33, living in Northbrook Place, Newbury, Berkshire, with her daughters, Eliza (9), Henrietta (7) and a lodger.

The 1891 census records Jane (44), Eliza (19) and Henrietta (17), living in Northbrook Place, all three were recorded as Dressmakers.

By 1901 they had moved to 4 West Street, Newbury. Jane (53) and Eliz (29) were still working as Dressmakers, Henrietta (27) was working as a Mantle Maker (Tailor).

Witnesses: Jane Nisbett, Eliza Langford Sarah Nisbett, John Underwood, Harriet Underwood, Elizabeth Mary Purdue, George Purdue and June Nisbett.

 

Arthur and Henrietta had a son, Ray George Nesbitt, born 24th June 1905 in Newbury.

 The 1911 census records Arthur (40) as a Printer’s Machinest (Letter Press), Henrietta (36) and their son Ray (5), living at 112 Gloucester Road, Newbury.

The 1939 Register records Arthur as a Printer’s Machinest living at 112 Gloucester Road, with and Henrietta and her sister Eliza Nisbett.

Arthur died aged 73 on the 4th April 1944. He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 8th April.

Henrietta died aged 93 on the 27th August 1967. She was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 31st August
