William Purdue
1805-1858
William, his parents, siblings and early life:
William was born on the 24th April 1805, he was baptised on the 29th May 1805 at St Nicolas Church, Newbury, Berkshire, the son of James and Hannah Purdue (nee Skinner) who were married on the 5th July 1784, at St Nicolas, Newbury (witnesses, Samuel Purdue and Jane Cook).
His father James was baptised on the 28th March 1756 at St Nicolas Church Newbury, the son of James and Mary Purdue. James died aged 71 in 1827, he was buried on the 27th October, at St Nicolas, Newbury.
His mother Hannah was baptised on the 15th January 1760, at St Nicolas Church Newbury, the daughter of Timothy and Hannah Skinner. Hannah died aged 80 in 1840, she was buried on the 2nd March, at St Nicolas, Newbury.
James and Hannah also had the following children (all baptised at St Nicolas, Newbury):

Maria born 15th December 1789, baptised 24th January 1790,
John born 20th February 1792, baptised 21st March 1792

George born 11th October 1800, baptised 7th November 1800
Mellicent born 27th October 1802, baptised 3rd December 1802
The 1815 census of Newbury records James (60), Hannah (56), Thomas (20), Hannah (19), Charles (16), George (14), Millicent (12) and William (9), were living at the Two Brewers, (James was the Publican) in West Street, Newbury.
William in later life:
William married Ann Eyles on the 29th March 1929, at St Nicolas, Newbury.
They had the following children:
Nathaniel 1837 (died 1860, buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 1st February)

Joseph 1846 (died 1846, buried 8th June at St Mary, Hampstead Norris)
John c1849 (died aged 20, on the 24th June 1869, buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 27th June)
The 1841 census records William (30) as a Baker, living in Church Street, Hampstead Norris, Berkshire, with Ann (30) and their children, Nathaniel (2) and Sarah (1). (Surname recorded as Purden on ancestry)
Ann died aged 44 in 1851. She was buried on the 9th March at St Mary, Thatcham.
The 1851 census records William (49) as a Baker, living at the Traveller’s Friend, Thatcham, Berkshire, with his children, Nathaniel (13), Mary Ann (11) (Sarah Ann), William (9), George (7) and John (2). His daughter Martha (8) was recorded living with her cousins George Banning (25), a Blacksmith, Ann Banning (18) and Henry Banning (13), in Collingbourne Ducis, Wiltshire.
William died aged 53 in 1858. He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 3rd September.
