John was baptised on the 30th November 1800, in Upper Clatford, Hampshire, the son of George and Elizabeth Sainsbury (nee Goodall) who were married on the 24th December 1797, in Alverstoke, Hampshire.

George and Elizabeth also had a son George, baptised on the 4th November 1798, in Upper Clatford.

John was a Carpenter.  He married Elizabeth Martin on the 7th September 1826, at St Nicolas Church, Newbury, Berkshire.

(Elizabeth was baptised on the 12th May 1799, in Chalton, Hampshire, the daughter of William and Sarah Martin)

John (40) and Elizabeth (45) were recorded living in Bartholomew Street, Newbury in 1841.

The 1851 census records Elizabeth (50) and John (50) living in Hereford Place, off Bartholomew Street, Newbury (surname recorded as Sarnbury on ancestry)

Elizabeth died aged 56 in 1851. She was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 7th July.

John remarried in 1852, in Newbury. His 2nd wife was Hannah Shuff (widow of Joseph)

The 1861 and 1871 census records record John and Hannah living in Hereford Place, Newbury.

In 1861 John was recorded aged 59 and Hannah was recorded aged 57.

The 1871 census records John aged 70, as a Machinist and Hannah aged 67. Hannah’s son Joseph Shuff (35), an Iron Works Labourer, was also recorded living with them.

Hannah died aged 72 on the 18th August 1876, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 21st August.

John died aged 77 in 1878. He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 21st August.
