Mary Poor(e) was born c1763. (Possible baptism: 19th September 1762, at St Nicolas, Newbury, Berkshire, the daughter of Thomas and Christian(a) (recorded as Christopher on the baptism transcript) Poor(e) (nee Lawrence) who were married on the 3rd June 1762, at St Nicolas Church, Newbury).

Mary Poore married William Millisent on the 4th December 1787, at St Nicolas Church, Newbury.

(William was baptised 31st October 1756, at St Nicolas, Newbury, the son of Benjamin and Martha Millisent (nee Smith) who were married on the 30th July 1749 at St Nicolas, Newbury. William served as a Corporal in the Army. According to the UK Royal Hospital Chelsea Pensioner Admissions and Discharges 1715-1929 records, he was discharged on the 24th April 1802, aged 47, after serving 24 years).

Mary and William had the following children:

Sarah, baptised 4th October 1790, in Reading (Surname recorded as Millison)

Jane baptised 9th July 792, in Reading (Surname recorded as Millison)

William, baptised in February 1795 in Reading (Surname recorded as Millison)

Twins: Joseph and Thomas Millisent, born 24th May 1797, baptised 25th May 1797 at St Nicolas, Newbury (Thomas died aged 4 weeks, buried 21st June 1797, at St Nicolas Newbury)

John Millisent, baptised 5th June 1803 at St Nicolas Newbury, (died aged 4, buried 13th October 1807 at St Nicolas Newbury)

Samuel Millicent, born 25th February 1805, baptised 11th March 1805, at St Nicolas Newbury

In 1815 Mary Millescent (50) was living in Gibbs Yard, on the east side of Bartholomew Street, Newbury, with her husband William (59), who was blind, her sons Joseph (16) and Samuel (10), a Martha Benham (28), a Water Cress Seller, and Martha’s daughter Mary Ann Benham (2).

Mary was widowed in 1828, William Millisent died aged 73, he was buried on the 15th August, at St Nicolas Newbury.

The 1841 census records Mary (75) as Independent, living in Dredges Yard, off Bartholomew Street, Newbury. Her grandson John (15), a Fellmonger’s Apprentice, was living with her. (names recorded as Milliard on ancestry)  

The 1851 census records Mary (89) as a Pauper/Labourer. She was still living in Dredges Yard, but was now living alone. (Surname recorded as Millson on ancestry, actual record records her name as Millison)

Mary Millisent died aged 88 in 1851. She was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 7th June.
