Jeremiah King

c1819-1857

Jeremiah was baptised on the 21^st February 1819, at St Mary, Greenham, Berkshire, the son of Jonathan (a Labourer) and Mary King (nee Rabbit) who were married on the 13^th February 1811 in West Woodhay, Hampshire. (Jonathan was from Speen, Berkshire)

Jonathan and Mary also had the following children:

Charles, born 20^th March 1812, baptised 12^th April 1812, at St Mary, Greenham

William, baptised 12^th June 1814, at St Mary the Virgin, Speen

John, baptised 8^th September 1816, at St Nicolas, Newbury

James, baptised 17^th February 1822, at St Mary, Greenham

Thomas, 29^th January 1826, at St Mary, Greenham

Mary Ann, baptised 4^th May1828, at St Mary, Greenham

Jeremiah married Sarah Bail(e)y in 1848 (marriage registered in the December quarter in Newbury)

They had the following children:

John, born 1849, baptised 26^th September 1849 (died aged 6 weeks in 1849, buried 3^rd October, at St Nicolas, Newbury)

Hannah was born in 1851 in Bradford, Wiltshire, (birth registered in the March quarter, in Newbury, no baptism found, died in 1851, approximate age at death, 2 months, buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 3^rd May).

Henry, born 1852, baptised 27^th August 1852 (died aged 3 months in 1852, buried in the NRC on the 18^th October)

Jeremiah, born 1853, baptised 29^th October 1853

Charles, born 1856, baptised February 1856 (died aged 15 days in 1856, buried in the NRC on the 10^th March)

George, born 1857, baptised 26^th April 1857

(All baptised at St Nicolas Church, Newbury)

The 1851 census records Jeremiah as a Sweep’s Labourer, living in Bartholomews, Newbury, Berkshire, with Sarah (30) and their daughter Hannah aged 1 month.

Jeremiah died aged 38 in 1857. He was laid to rest in unconsecrated ground in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 12^th June.
