Unnamed (stillborn) Willis
1851-1851
This child’s parents were Robert and Harriet Willis (nee Callis) who were married on the 7th February 1842 at St Nicolas Church Newbury, Berkshire.
Father: Robert was born c1808 in Newbury, Berkshire, the son of Robert (Landlord of the Swan in Bartholomew Street in 1815) and Ann(e) Willis (formerly Challis, nee Applebee) who were married on the 22nd July 1805 at Nicolas Church, Newbury. (Ann married Joseph Challis on the 17th April 1796, in East Woodhay Hampshire. They had a daughter Eliza baptised in 1797. Joseph died aged 33 in 1800, buried (as Joseph Chalice) on the 28th October, at St Nicolas Newbury)
Mother: Harriet was baptised in 1822 in Speen, the daughter of George and Harriet Callis (nee Piper) who were married on the 18th April 1815 in East Woodhay, Hampshire, (with the consent of their parents)
Robert and Harriet also had the following children (baptised at St Nicolas):

George, born 1847, baptised 29th August 1847
Mary Ann, born 1849, baptised 26th August 1849
A male child born1853 (died 1853, without being named)

Robert was recorded as a Flyman on his marriage record, the baptisms of his children from 1843-1849 and the 1851 census. In 1857 he was recorded as a Shopkeeper.
In 1851 Robert (40), Harriet (31) and their children, Hariet (7), Robert (6), George (4) and Mary Ann (1), were recorded living at 5 Simmons Yard, Newbury.
Robert died aged 50 in 1858. He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 4th June.
In the 1861 census Harriet (39) was recorded as a Shoe Shop Keeper, living in Bartholomew Street, Newbury, with her children Harriet (17), a Shoe Shop Assistant, Robert (15), a Shoemaker’s Apprentice, George (13), Mary (11), Clara (5) and Louisa (3).
Harriet remarried in 1862. Her 2nd husband was Thomas Groves
Harriet gave birth to a daughter, Alice Eliza, in 1865.
The 1871 census records Thomas (52), a Labourer, Harriet (51), Clara (15) and Alice (5), living in Bartholomew Street in Newbury. (Clara’s surname was recorded as Groves)
Harriet died aged 54 on 25 February 1875, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on 3 March.
In 1881 Thomas was recorded in the Newbury Workhouse. He died aged 60 on the 31st December 1885 in the Workhouse and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 4th January 1886.
