Margaret and her twin brother William were born in Greenham, Berkshire, the children of Joseph and Mary Church (nee Smith) who were married in c1866 (marriage registered in Wantage, Berkshire).

Margaret died aged 11 weeks, in Greenham. She was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 15th August 1870.

William died aged 12 weeks, in Greenham. He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 20th August 1870.

The Twins family:

Their father Joseph was a Gardener, he was born c1840 in Shaw-cum-Donnington, Berkshire, the son of John and Eliza Church (nee Challis) who were married in 1833 in Winterbourne, Berkshire.

Their mother Mary was born in 1844 in Little Hungerford, Berkshire, the daughter of George and Jane Smith (nee Middleton) who were married in 1842 (marriage registered in Wantage)

Joseph and Mary also had the following children:

Eliza Anne born 1866 (died 1866) (all three children’s births were registered in Newbury)

Frederick George 1871             

Joseph John 1873 (died as Joseph in 1874)

Herbert 1874 (birth registered in Buckinghamshire)

Violet Mary 1876 (all five births registered in Cookham)

Rosa 1878

Lily Jane 1881    

Daisy Priscilla 1883

Sidney 1885

In 1871 Joseph (29), Mary (27) and Mary’s sister Priscilla Smith (16), a Dressmaker, were recorded living in Greenham Street, Greenham, Berkshire.

By 1881 Joseph (40), Mary (37) and their children, Frederick (9), Herbert (6), Violet (4), Rosa (2) and Lily (2 months), were living at 2 Latimore Cottages, Cookham, Berkshire.

The 1891 census records Joseph (51), Mary (46), Frederick (19), a Gardener, Herbert (17), a Labourer, Rosa (12), Lily (10) and Sidney (6), living in North Town, Cookham.

In 1901 Joseph (60), Mary (58) and their sons Frederick (29), a Gardener and Sidney (16), a Telegraph Messenger, were living at 61, Cordwallis Road, Maidenhead, Berkshire.

Joseph (71) and Mary (67) were still living at 61 Cordwallis Road in 1911. Only their son Sidney (26), a Postman, was still at home living with them.

Joseph and Mary both died in 1918 (both deaths registered in the March quarter, in Maidenhead)
