George was baptised on the 13th February 1814, at St Mary the Virgin, Speen, the son of Richard (a Labourer) and Martha Smith (nee Watts) who were married on the 11th August 1790 at St Mary the Virgin, Speen Berkshire.

His father Richard was born c1769. He died aged 67 in 1836 and was buried on the 27th November at St Mary the Virgin Speen

His mother Martha was born c1773. She died aged 86 in 1853

Richard and Martha also had the following children baptised in Speen:

John, 16th February 1794

Thomas, 7th February 1796

Elizabeth, 28th January 1798

Mark, 26th September 1802

In 1841, George (25) was recorded as an Agricultural Labourer, living in Speen with his mother Martha (65), his brother Mark (40), his sister-in-law Elizabeth (40) and his nephews, Isaac Smith (13) and George Smith (2).

The 1851 census records George (35) as an Agricultural Labourer, living in Speen, with his wife Mary (29) (born in Hampshire) and his mother Martha (80), a Pauper/Washerwoman.

 

George (34) was killed in a terrible accident, on the 27th August 1851, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 30th August.
