Eliza Walker

c1813-1851

Eliza was baptised on the 18^th July 1813 in Greenham Berkshire., the daughter of John and Mary Walker (nee Field) who were married on the 18^th June 1798 in Greenham, Berkshire.

John and Mary also had the following two children:

Maria born on the 4^th March 1799, baptised on the 27^th March 1799 at St Nicolas Church Newbury

Ann baptised on the 16^th January 1818 at St Nicolas Church, Newbury

The 1815 census of Newbury records John Walker (46), Mary (40), their daughters Maria (16) and Eliza (2) and a Thomas Coker (45) a Bootmaker, living at The Three Trouts, Northcroft Lane, Newbury.

John died aged 67 in 1839, he was buried on the 26^th November, at St Nicolas Newbury.

In 1841 Eliza (25) (recorded as Elizabeth), was living with her mother Mary (60), an Innkeeper, in Northcroft Lane, Newbury. (The 1839 Robson’s Directory, records Mary Walker at The Rose and Crown, Northcroft Lane, Newbury)

The 1851 census records Eliza (37), late a Victualler, her mother Mary (74), an Almswoman, late a Victualler and her niece Eliza Lewis (9) (the daughter of her married sister Ann and her husband Henry Lewis), living in Raymond’s Almshouses, Newbury, Berkshire. (Surname mistakenly recorded as Walter on ancestry)

Eliza died aged 38 in 1851, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 8^th December. (NBI has recorded the date of burial as the 9^th December)

Her mother Mary died aged 74 in 1852, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 19^th April.
