Jane Aldridge was baptised on the 16th September 1787 in Great Marlow, Buckinghamshire, the daughter of Peter and Sarah Aldridge (nee Frith) who were married in Great Marlow on the 13th December 1782.

Peter and Sarah also had a daughter Sarah, baptised on the 19th November 1789 in Great Marlow.

Jane married Thomas Bright on the 26th April 1802, in Great Marlow, Buckinghamshire.

(Thomas was baptised on the 24th September 1775 at St Nicolas Church, Newbury, Berkshire, the son of Joseph and Mary Bright (nee Brown) who were married on the 7th November 1774 in Thatcham, Berkshire).

Jane and Thomas had the following children:

Maria, baptised 8th January 1804 in Great Marlow

William born c1806

Sarah born c1810

John born c1811

Mary born c1812 (died aged 3, buried 21st November 1815 at St Nicolas Newbury)

Joseph, baptised 9th April 1815 in Newbury (died aged 12, buried 6th December 1827 at St Nicolas Newbury)

Thomas, baptised 4th August 1822 in Newbury

Charles, baptised 8th February 1824 in Newbury (died aged 7, buried 21st June 1831 a St Nicolas Newbury)

Henry, baptised 12th March 1826 in Newbury

Joseph, baptised 8th June 1828 in Newbury

The 1815 census of Newbury records Thomas Bright (38), Jane (27) and their children Maria (10), William (7), Sarah (5), John (4), Mary (2) and Joseph (infant) living in Red Lion Yard, on the west side of Northbrook Street, Newbury. Thomas was recorded as a Labourer.

Jane was widowed in 1838, Thomas died aged 63, he was buried on the 30th January 1838 at St Nicolas, Newbury.

The 1841 census records Jane (45), living in Northbrook Street, Newbury, with her sons, John (25), Thomas (20), Henry (15) and Joseph (10), all were recorded as Bargemen.

In 1851 Jane (62), a Boatman/Pauper was recorded living in Robeson’s Yard, Newbury, with her son Henry (24), a Boatman.

Jane died aged 65 in 1851 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 9th December.
