1850-1851

Thomas was born in Newbury, Berkshire, he was baptised on the 24th November 1850, at St Nicolas Church, Newbury, the son of William and Elizabeth (aka Eliza), Broad (nee Dixon) who were married on the 23rd November 1829 in Kingsclere, Hampshire.

Thomas died aged 5 months, her was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 7th February 1851.

Thomas’s family:

His father William was a Journeyman Carpenter. He was born c1808 in East Challow/Great Challow, Berkshire

His mother Elizabeth was baptised in1806 in Kingsclere, Hampshire, the daughter of William and Ann Dixon.

William and Elizabeth also had the following children baptised at St Nicolas Church, Newbury:

Elizabeth Mary 1834

Ellen 1835 (died aged 1+, buried on the 5th July 1837, at St Nicolas Newbury)

Jane 1838

Sarah 1840

Henry 1842

Louisa born in c1844 (baptised in 1859)

Frederick 1847

The 1841 census records William (30) living in Northcroft Lane, Newbury, with Elizabeth (35) and their children, Edward (10), Elizabeth (8), Jane (3) and Sarah (1).

In 1851 William (42), Eliza (44), Edward (20), a Carpenter, Jane (12), Sarah (10), Henry (8), Louisa (6) and Frederick (3) were still living in Northcroft Lane, Newbury.

By 1861 the family were living at 10, Waterloo Place Newbury, as follows, William (53), Elizabeth (56), Henry (18), a Cooper’s Apprentice, Louisa (17) and Frederick (14).

By 1871 William (65) and Elizabeth (67) were living at 7 Winchcombe Place, Newbury.

The 1881 census records William (73) and Elizabeth (74) living at 14 New Church Almshouses, Newbury.

William died aged 77 in 1884, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 19th September.

Elizabeth died aged 81 in 1888, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 31st May.
