Thomas and his twin sister Hannah were baptised on the 28th December 1769, at St Nicolas Church Newbury, the children of John and Margaret Purdue (nee Walker) who were married on the 15th November 1764, at St Nicolas Church, Newbury. (both were single)

His father John was born c1733 in Newbury, Berkshire. In 1815 John (80) was living in King John’s Almshouses, Newbury, Berkshire. He died aged 89 in 1825 and was buried on the 20th May, at St Nicolas Newbury.

Thomas married Elizabeth Shilton on the 14th March 1792, at St Nicolas Church Newbury.

(Elizabeth was baptised on the 20th December 1771 in Kintbury, Berkshire, the daughter of Jonathan and Mary Shilton (nee Evence) who were married on the 29th January 1770 in Hungerford, Berkshire, Jonathan was from Kintbury)

In 1815 Thomas (50) was working as a Labourer, he was living at White Hall, on the east side of Bartholomew Street, Newbury, Berkshire, with Elizabeth (50) and their children, Isaac (14), Sarah (12), Charles (8) and Thomas (6).

Elizabeth died aged 66 in 1838, she was buried on the 20th June at St Nicolas Newbury.

The 1841 census records Thomas (70) as a Weaver, living in City New Almshouses, Newbury.

In 1851 Thomas (81) was recorded as an Almsman/ Shoemaker, living in Raymond’s Almshouses, Newbury with a Nurse, Mary Ann Carter (44).

Thomas died aged 82 in 1851, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 12th December.
