Mary Ann Vince
1839-1916
Marianne was born on the 28th February 1839 she was baptised on the 24th March 1839 at Holy Trinity, Clapham, Surrey, the daughter of Christmas Latin (Latten) and Mary Ann Vince (nee Haywood/Hayward) who were married on the 28th September 1836 in Wilton, Norfolk.
Her father Christmas Latin Vince was a Gardener. He was baptised on the 13th January 1805 in West Dereham, Norfolk, the son of Christmas and Anne Vince (nee Latten) who were married on the 10th June 1800 in Stoke Ferry, Norfolk. He died aged 48 in 1853 and was buried on the 11th April at Holy Trinity, Clapham.
Her mother Mary Ann Hayward was born on the 26th February 1806, she was baptised on the 13th July 1806 in West Wickham, Cambridgeshire, the daughter of Samuel and Ann Hayward (nee Bayles) who were married on the 31st May 1804 in West Wickham, Cambridgeshire. She died in 1889 in London.
Christmas and Mary Ann also had the following children:
Jane Hayward born 6th September 1837, baptised 24th September at West Wickham (died aged 7 in 1844, buried 27th December at Holy Trinity, Clapham)
John born 24th October 1840, baptised 15th November at Holy Trinity, Clapham
Robert Thomas born 1st June 1843, baptised 20th August at Holy Trinity, Clapham
William born 5th August 1846, baptised 13th September 1846 at the Clapham Congregational Church (buried in the NRC on the 27th November 1926)
In 1841 Mary Anne (3) (recorded as Marianne) was living in Clapham, Surrey, with her father, Christmas (35), recorded as a Male Servant, her mother, Marianne (35), her sister, Jane (4) and her brother, John (1).
The 1851 census records Mary Ann (12), living in Triangle Place, Clapham, with her father, Christmas (46), a Gardener in Service, her mother, Mary Ann (46) and her brothers, John (10) and Robert (7).
In 1861 Mary Ann (22) was working as a Cook at 7 and 8 Victoria Road, Kensington, for Richard Ansdell (the British painter 1815-1885) and his family.
The 1871 census records Mary Ann (32) as a Shopwoman, visiting a James and Jane Sivell and family at 6 Prince’s Street, Ryde, I.O.W.
In 1881 Mary Ann (40) was recorded working as a Manageress. She was living at 184 Hoxton Street, Shoreditch. Her mother Mary Ann ((75) was living with her.
The 1891 census records Mary Ann (51) living on her own means, visiting a Thomas Tyman and his family at 29 Navarino Road, Hackney.
By 1901 Mary Ann (60) was living at 79 Cheap Street, Newbury, Berkshire. She was working as a Telephone Office Caretaker.
The 1911 census records Mary Ann (72) as an Old Age Pensioner, formerly a Housekeeper. She was living at 2, The Gardens, Donnington Square, Newbury, Berkshire.
Mary moved to 9 King John’s Almshouses where she died aged 75 (MI records aged 77) on the 13th April 1916, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 17th April
