Isabella Venn

1873-1940

Isabella was born on the 16^th January 1873 in Reigate, Surrey, the daughter of Boaz and Emily Thrift (nee Lucas) who were married in 1856 in Reigate.

Her father Boaz was a Carpenter, he was born c1826 in Brenchley, Kent, the son of James and Mary Thrift. Boaz died aged 62 in 1889, in Reigate.

Her mother Emily was baptised in 1835 at St Michael, Betchworth, Surrey, the daughter of Jesse and Harriet Lucas. Emily died aged 70 in 1906 in Reigate.

Boaz and Emily also had the following children (all births registered in Reigate):

In 1881 Isabella (8) was living in Park Lane, Reigate, with her father Boaz (54), her mother Emily (45) and her sister Clara (18), a Dressmaker.

The 1891 census records Isabella (18) as a Dressmaker, living in West Street, Reigate, with her widowed mother Emily (55) a Needlewoman (Shirt).

(William was born James William Venn in 1869 in Hungerford Berkshire, the son of William James and Hester/Esther Venn (nee Head) who were married in 1869 (marriage registered in Wantage)

The 1901 census records William James (31) as a Butcher, living at 126 Montague Street, Worthing, Sussex with Isabella (28), his mother Hester (61) living on her own means and a Frederick Ruff (17) a Burcher’s Assistant.

In 1911 Isabella (38), William (40) and William’s mother Esther Venn (73) were living at “Glenthorpe” Chesterfield Road, Newbury, Berkshire. William was recorded as a Commercial Traveller (Butchers Fitters)

By 1921 William and Isabella had moved to “Homeleigh” 56, Enborne Road, Newbury.

William James died aged 61 on the 9^th September 1931, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 14^th September.

The 1939 Register records Isabella as Incapacitated, living at 56 Enborne Road, Newbury with a Companion, Ada A Mundy.

 Isabella died aged 67 on the 27^th December 1940, she was laid to rest with William James in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 31^st December.
