Susannah Packer
c1782-1850
Susannah was baptised on the 22nd September 1782 in Wolvercote, Oxfordshire, the daughter of William and Elizabeth Lock (nee Seal) who were married on the 8th October 1769 in Wolvercote.
William and Elizabeth also had a son, Henry, baptised on the 18th July 1780 in Wolvercote.
William was a Millwright (info from Death Duty Register, 26th October 1803). He died in 1803 and was buried at St Peter, Wolvercote.
Her mother Elizabeth died aged 67, she was buried in 1810 at St Peter Wolvercote. Elizabeth left a will (dated 23/6/1809) bequeathing to Susannah, her house in Wolverton and the one adjoining, £100, furniture, evening apparel and all other effects.
Susanna(h) married John Packer on the 2" September 1811 at St Leonard Shoreditch London (both were single)
John worked as a Silversmith, a Clock and Watch Maker, an Engraver, a Jeweller and a Corn, Coal and Salt Merchant in Northbrook Street, Newbury, Berkshire.
They had the following children
Susannah (aka Susan) baptised 12/6/1814 at St. Mary's, Reading. Charles baptised 16/4/1815 in Shoreditch Eliza born 23/2/1816, baptised 10/5/1816 at St. Mary's, Reading John baptised in 1818 in Newbury Charles baptised in 1820 in Newbury Ellen baptised in 1822 in Newbury The 1815 census of Newbury records John & Susannah both aged 30, living on the east side of Northbrook Street, Newbury with their daughter Susannah aged 1. and three servants.
In 1841 John & Susannah both aged 55, were living in Northbrook Street, John was recorded as a Watchmaker. Their children John (20), a Watchmaker and Ellen (15) were recorded living with them.
Susannah died aged 67 on the 21st May 1850, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 25th May. (Susannah was the fourth person to be buried in the cemetery and the first person to be buried in consecrated ground)
