William Harry Viner was born in Newbury, Berkshire, the son of Henry and Sarah Ann Viner (nee Canning) who were married in 1889 (marriage registered in Newbury).

William Henry died aged 6 months on the 14th March 1893, laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 18th March.

William’s family:

His father Henry was born in 1864 in Wiltshire, the son of James (a Carter) and Ann Viner (nee Knipe) who were married on the 22nd August 1863 at Kington St Michael, Wiltshire.

His mother Sarah was born in 1868, she was baptised on the 13th September in Little Bedwyn, Wiltshire, the daughter of Charles (a Labourer of Kintbury, Berkshire) and Jane Canning (nee Tuttle) who were married on the 24th September 1864 in Little Bedwyn, Wiltshire.

Henry and Sarah also had a daughter, Florence Annie, born on the 14th August 1889 in Newbury.

In 1891 Henry (26), a Grocer’s Porter, Sarah (22) and their daughter Florence (1), were living at 22 Waterloo Place, Newbury.

By 1893 they had moved to Brighton Terrace, Newbury.

William’s mother Sarah Ann died aged 26 in 1894, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 31st August.

His father Henry remarried in 1897. His 2nd wife was Emily Adelaide Church (marriage registered in Newbury).

Henry and Emily had the following three children:

Twins: Elsie and Harry, born in 1898 (both died in 1898, buried in the NRC on the 30th September)

Edith Winifred, born on the 7th December 1899. (also known as Winifred Edith)

William’s father Henry died aged 35 in 1900, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 14th May.

After Henry’s death William’s sister Florence went to live with her aunt and uncle Samuel and Mary Pocock (nee Canning) in Old Newtown Road, Newbury.

The 1901 census records William’s stepmother Emily (25) as an Upholsterer, living at 4, Waterloo Place, Newbury, with her widowed mother Martha Church (65), her brother Frederick Church (17) and her daughter Winifred (1).

In 1911 Emily (35) was recorded as an Upholsterer, living at 4 Waterloo Place, Newbury with her daughter Winifred (11) and her brother Richard Church (44), a Postman.

Emily remarried in 1919 (marriage registered in Newbury), her 2nd husband was Harry Jones.

Harry Jones died in 1926.

In 1939 Emily was living at 1 West Street Newbury, she was still working as an Upholsterer and was living with her married daughter Edith W. May and her grandson Clifford R. May.

Emily Adelaide Jones died on the 18th May 1957, at the time of her death she was living at 1 West-street, Newbury, Berkshire.
