William was baptised in 1776 in Newbury, Berkshire, the son of William and Priscilla Sussex (nee Brushwood) who were married in 1766 in Newbury, Berkshire.

William’s father William was baptised in 1741 in Boxford, Berkshire, the son of William and Eliz. Sussex, he died in 1788 and was buried on the 27th June at St Nicolas Newbury.

His mother Priscilla was born c1741. In 1815 Priscilla (74) was living in an Almshouse in Fair Close, Newbury. She died aged 79 in 1820 and was buried on the 5th September at St Nicolas Newbury.

William and Priscilla also had the following two sons baptised in Newbury:

Thomas, baptised in 1771

Edward, baptised in 1774

 

In 1815 William (37), a Hatter, and his wife Sarah (36) were living in Rottingham Lane, West Mills, Newbury.

Willliam was widowed in 1830, Sarah died aged 53, she was buried on the 17th September at St Nicolas Newbury.

William remarried on the 27th November 1831 in Thatcham, Berkshire. His 2nd wife was Caroline Green (born c1806).

Caroline gave birth to a daughter Priscilla who was baptised in 1833 in Newbury, Berkshire.

Caroline died aged 32, five years later. She was buried on the 13th June 1838 at St Nicolas Newbury.

In 1841 William (60) was living in Bradley’s Yard, Newbury with his daughter Priscilla (7).

His daughter Priscilla died aged 8 in 1841, she was buried on the 24th November at St Nicolas, Newbury.

The 1851 census records William aged 74, as a Hatter/Pauper, living alone in Mayor Lane, Newbury.

He died aged 77 in 1853 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 4th October.
