Frederick Atkins

1895-1930

Frederick was born in Warmington, Northamptonshire, the son of Robert and Elizabeth Jane Atkins (nee Jessett) who were married on the 28^th November 1893 at St Mary, Bryanston Square, St Marylebone, Westminster.

Frederick’s father Robert was born in 1866, he was baptised on the 30^th September 1866 in Warmington, the son of Smart and Ann Atkins (nee Arber) who were married in on the 9^th March 1851 in Castor, Northampton. Robert died aged 68 in 1935, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 4^th March.

His mother Elizabeth Jane was born on the 19^th November 1872 in Eddington, Berkshire the daughter of Thomas and Anna Maria Jessett (nee Ruddle) who were married in 1870 in Berkshire. Elizabeth Jane died aged 88 in Newbury in 1960.

Twins: James Stanley (aka Stanley James) and Joseph Gordon born 5^th February 1911 in Newbury

The 1901 census records Robert (34) as a Metropolitan Police Constable, living at 11 Wharncliffe Gardens, St Marylebone with his wife Elizabeth (28) and their children Annie (6), Robert (3) and Lucy (1).

Frederick (5) was recorded living at the Royal Exchange, Park Street, Hungerford, Berkshire, with his widowed grandmother Anna Maria Jessett (50), the Innkeeper, his great uncle, Charles Ruddle (52), a Manager, his uncles, Charles Jessett (18), a Bicycle Mechanic, Thomas Jessett (16), a Carpenter and two lodgers.

The 1911 census records Frederick (15), as a Grocer’s Apprentice, living at 10 Ena Terrace, Russell Road, Newbury with his father Robert (46), a Metropolitan Police Constable Pensioner, his mother Elizabeth (39), his sisters Annie (16) and Lucy (11) and his brothers, Robert (13), Harold (8), Walter (3) and Stanley and Joseph (2 months).

Frederick died aged 34 on the 12^th July 1930, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 16^th July.
