Mary Jane Wilkins was born in Wiltshire, she was baptised on the 18th September 1825 in Baydon, the daughter of James and Ann Wilkins (nee Avenal) who were married on the 18th October 1824 in Baydon, Wiltshire.

Mary Jane married Charles Hall, a Builder/Bricklayer (born c1823 in Newbury, the son of John and Hannah Hall (nee Head)) on the 9th April 1850, in Baydon, Wiltshire, they had the following children (all born in Newbury):

Mary Ann 1862 (died aged 0 in 1862, buried in the NRC on the 14th November)

Frances Mary c1864

Alice 1866

James 1868 (died aged 1 in 1869, buried in the NRC on the 17th December)

Mary Ann also gave birth to a stillborn child in 1859, this child was buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 9th April

The family lived in Newbury, Harding’s Yard (1851), Staples Yard (1861) and Northcroft Lane (1871)

Charles died aged 51 on the 4th April 1874, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 10th April.

Mary Jane continued to living in Northcroft Lane until at least 1881 but by 1891 she was living in Prospect Villa, Gloucester Road, Newbury. She died aged 80 on the 22nd June 1905, in the Royal Berkshire Hospital Reading. She was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 24th June. (age at death registered as 82)
