Walter Widdick Smith (1853 — 1874)  
Walter Widdick Smith was born in 1853 in Speen„ the son of Amos and Harriett, nee Wicklick, Smith. Amos and Harriett had married on 18 December 1852 at St Mary in Speenhamiand. A sister Clara was born in 1856 in Speen.
Amos Smith, Walter's father died in March 1857 while living at Thom Stmet, St Lawrence in Reading,. He was buried at London Road Cemetery in Reading on 5 April 1857.
In the 1861 census Walter was living in Northbrook Street in Newbury with Thomas and Mary Smith and their five children, Walter was recorded as a scholar. No trace of his mother in the census. His sister Clara was recorded as a boarder in Wash Road in Newbury.
Walter's mother Harriett remarried in 1864 in Newbury to William Butler.

A few years later in the 1871 census Walter was living with his mother Harriett, stepfather William,  sister Clara and three daughters of William and Harriett at 35 Jack Street in Newbury_ Waiter's occupation was boot? (full word is not legible).

Walter died 5 April 1874 and he was buried at Newtown Road Cemetery on 11 April.
An announcement appeared in the Newbury Weekly News dated 9 April 1874 and Reading Mercury dated 11 April 1874 as below.

SMITH — April 5, at 35 Marsh Street, Newbury, Waiter Widdick Smith, aged 20.

Walter's mother Harriett continued to live in Newbury and she died Decencd)er 1913 while living at I King John's AlmhousesinNewt:guy and was buried at Newtown Road Cemetery on 13 December 1913.
